Is this the northernmost extent of the precipitation or does it continue to move north after this image?

Duration of precip on the radar does not look great right now, hopefully it will fill in as it continues moving towards us.

It will slow it's movement north and start to come east. It's possible it stalls some over the area. A lot of the action is yet to even be in range of the radar.

I could see the front part of the band filling in and becoming as strong as the back part, making it a solid 50 miles wide.

I think we need our Satellite watch team on high alert today, the conditions are great for next few hours, maybe guess where the bands will show up based on cloud colors shades.

We've picked up almost two inches in the last three hours or so.  Probably about eight on the ground now.  

Seems your area did pretty poorly yesterday? Most of the areas in the western PDX metro seemed to have about 7-9 inches on the ground as of this morning. Should be 10+ by now.

27 here as well in Hillsboro. Salem apparently still staying all snow so PDX should be good for snow for the next few hours at least. Maybe we stay snow all day. 

 

Edit: Reports of some sleet up at Wilsonville, the warm air advection aloft might be nearing the PDX metro.

Up to 34 degrees, but with a DP of 12! Love it, ground is so rock hard and dry. Grass is dry as a bone so the dogs stay clean...I would love to live in this type of climate some day. We will end up living somewhere east of the Cascades some day.

My brother in Redmond "High desert Mat", on the KPTV blog told me he just measured out his backyard and he had 30" on the ground. Epic for that banana belt of central Oregon.

I know ZR is destructive, but I hate sleet, it's the most boring weather outside of rain.  It does accumulate, but you can't do much with it?

As far as I can tell this hasn't been answered yet. I am pretty sure that is Lake Shore Drive in Chicago after the February 2011 blizzard.

Still sunny up here, but clouds defiantly building to the south as I look out my dining room window.

Could this be a case where the temps begin to plummet as the low approaches? I remember during the Dec 1996 event we were up into the upper 30's before the storm system rolled up from the south. As the low approached the temps plummeted like a rock the evening before the big snow started. I remember it went from 38 around 2PM down to 14 by 8PM that evening even before the snow started. What is the difference this time, less arctic air to work with this time around? Im not worried about precip type since my current DP is 12, but I was just curious.

Its all about the DP. Temps will drop when moisture arrives.
