With nothing on the horizon I am downgrading this winter to a B. If we hadn’t had that amazing stretch of weather between Christmas and New Years I would currently have this winter as a D+.
What an incredibly dull stretch we have been in since 1/2/22. 🤢🤮

I think I'd have to give winter a C at this point. Hard to give it anything less given how good the late December event was. Take away that week and it's an F.

I give it an F+ even with the good week in December.

When its all said and done, eleven weeks of boredom will overpower one week of fun.

Winter still an A here. Not an A+ but still an A.

10" of snow is enough in this location.

Won't be feeling that for another two to three months up this way.

Also haven't you said before that March averages more snowfall than December in your area? Crazy to think your winter may just be getting started in a month, right when ours is pretty much over and done with. I checked the NOAA nowdata for your forecast office (Sterling) and y'all have record min highs in the low 20s well into March; this despite being 10° South of Seattle.

Since there are so many paths to dynamic warming here (downsloping, oceanic radiation, enhanced mixing), our winter potential is largely a function of sun angles+the ambient warming they provide over the course of the season. Ironically enough this means that in the right year Seattle can be the first to cash in on those cold air masses from the north in November, while y'all out east are waiting their turn. When we had our cold airmass in late Dec, my house had more snowfall than Boston at that point in the season. Obviously that's changed in a big way, but it's crazy how delayed your seasons are over there.

I guess the trade-off here is that -50°F giga-airmasses are reduced to +23°F highs... 🥴🙃

Yeah March averages more snow than December in the new 1991-2020 averages.

December used to be decent around here, but it’s basically an autumn month now. It’s just gone. Not a single snowflake fell here in December this year, which is becoming increasingly common. March is holding its own, possibly getting a bit snowier. Weird stuff.

BTW, our winter may peak late but our spring is very short..like 4-6 weeks then it’s right into summer for the next 5 months. At some point the sun angles and warm Gulf Stream/Chesapeake just overwhelms any residual cold advection.

Probably a C- here.  unless things change we'll end the winter at about 60% normal snow at KGEG.  Lowest temp I think has been 1 above.  Hardly any measurable frozen precip in the last 5 weeks.  La Nina, LOL

Memories…

The days before I had a snow plow attachment and it wasn’t long before my driveway was pure ice and I couldn’t make it up even with 4wd so I had to borrow the neighbors tractor to plow it with the front bucket. Oh and yeah my old yard was a wreck from December 2008.
