July 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Guest Sounder

Felt a notable temperature drop-off this evening walking down the hill towards the restaurant on Puget Sound. Must have been 7-8 degree drop over a few blocks (was about room temperature on top of the hill, and down to the mid-60s towards the bottom).

What restaurant did you go to?

The sensor at EUG does not reflect the true low temps in Eugene proper on the valley floor at all for low temps. Right now, I'm at 70 degrees at my location and it is 58 at the airport. It seems like the highs are about right, but the calm, clear night lows are way off, both during the summer and winter.

We ate at 190 Sunset. The place that used to be an antique mall or something of the sort.

It is more reflective of the rural Willamette Valley.

Not bad in Battle Ground with a low of 53.5 this morning.  After a high of 96, that's pretty nice.  Last night at 8 it was 81, I've seen many hot days where it's still 90 at 8.

Makes it a bit more tolerable.

Its been two weeks now since the rain stopped here.

The 00Z EPS looked quite zonal in the 10-15 day period.    I bet we see some more rain here later next week.

Leaving for Vancouver, BC this afternoon around 12pm. Will be mostly off the grid from tomorrow afternoon until the 30th, but I’ll try to get a post or two in if possible.

Looks like more boring weather this year up there compared to last year’s cyclone.

I'd be shocked if we see rain at any point in the next six weeks.

I would more shocked if there was not significant rain up here in the next 6 weeks.

I wonder when the last time "my location" had significant rain in August...

It is funny. We are having an outdoor wedding on the property on the 4th and we are both hoping for rain...

That’s not bad at all. Our house was 84 around 9pm yesterday

Today we may hit that 84 or 85 in the house. I did get up at 5:30 am to open all the window and doors. Got the house down to 70 before shutting everything down again.

Beautiful out...wildwaves later with the Grandkid :)

I had rain a couple days that month. Maybe a quarter to half an inch.

Camping over in Lake Chelan during that time frame so hopefully mostly dry and a little cooler than normal.

Red does not mean its all dried up here!

Even with red colors... we still have had plenty of rain.    Over 7 inches here.    We don't need normal rain in the warm season to stay green.    We just need it spread out.    Long dry spells with hot weather is the biggest factor in really drying out.  We just started that a couple weeks ago.    My guess is that August will bring back some periodic rain up here.

We do something similar during hot spells. It’s an accomplishment to get the living room down to around 70 in the morning before the outside starts warming up again.

I wonder how many other posters here don’t have AC.

We don't. Usually will shut down the house on extreme 100 degree days, otherwise keep it open and let airflow drag the hot air upstairs and out the windows. For the real hot days open all the windows about 6pm once the outside temp is starting to come down.

Got a portable AC unit (Della) which is made to cool an area 1000 sq ft. House is bigger than that but if we shut the doors to non necessary rooms it does a pretty good job. Can get the living room where the unit is; in combination of opening windows at around 8pm, down to the upper 60s in the early morning hours.

I can tell you it feels like over half the businesses in Eugene/Springfield don't have it.

Me and my ladyfriend put ours up about a week ago.

We went through Springfield a couple weeks ago on the way back from camping in the Three Fingered Jack area. Seems like a nice place.

Til mid August then I am going up to OHSU for brain surgery. Then recovering in Monmouth for a month or two, then moving to Springfield. I will miss out on 2008-style madness but I will get to enjoy 1969 redux whenever it happens again.
