Grand Rapids mean temperature for September so far is 67.3°. The next 6 days will determine where this September ends up but it looks like we will end up is the top 15 or better. Yesterday the H/L at Grand Rapids was 57/55 and that is the 15 day in a row of above average temperatures. For today the average H/L is now down to 69/49. The record high is 91 set in 2017 and the record low is 29 set in 1947. The warmest minimum is 70 set in 1931 and the record coldest maximum is 46 set in 2001. Last year the H/L was 80/65’

It’s crazy how hot Sept ‘17 was so late in the month. I think you’ve posted 3 record high temps in the 90’s? That was quite a stretch of late season heat.

Tornado watch... Okay then

First tornado watch of the year here and it happens in September.

HRRR was way off yesterday. I'm glad I went out chasing and didn't listen to the HRRR. Those storms exploded when they formed along the NE/IA border north of Omaha. Saw some pretty impressive storms yesterday. Had a tornado come very close to forming about 1/2 away from me before I lost it in the rain. The storm cycled and produced a rapidly rotating wall cloud but I lost that due to sketchy country roads and the fact I drive a little Nissan Altima that I don't trust it at all on side roads. I had to backtrack a bit and could only see the brief tornado by Ida Grove from about 5-6 miles away. I'll post some videos and pics when I get a chance to edit, etc.

Hard to believe on the first few days of October next week, MBY has a chance to break record high temps as readings are expected to soar in the mid to upper 80s.

There were 6 days in a row of record high temperatures in 2017. There will be one more tomorrow. After a high of 87 on September 20 the next 6 days all had record highs of 95,95,96,94,91 and 92. The month of September 2017 was the warmest September in Grand Rapids history.

Also not I had to change the H/L for yesterday as it was 75/65.

And it kept right on going well into October. Pretty sure I was working in my garden that month with summer shorts and shirt and busting a sweat because it was so hot. Not sure the date tbh, but shortly after the temps finally cooled off from summer levels.

You will eventually get at least one severe t'stm IYBY. I mean, you cannot dodge all of them, that would be hilarious amigo and strange. Your area this Summer seems to have had a sign that reads.."No storms for Jaster", pls take an alternate route.

They're not talking severe, nor do I need that level tbh. I'd just like the garden variety T-storms they keep insisting on forecasting to verify. And mostly for the much needed moisture associated with 'em. It's been a cruel joke by anyone's standards here..   :(

Sparky- How long does your garden lasts in the Autumn. Mine usually goes off by mid October at the latest.

It depends on the weather. Usually have some things growing till it freezes. Average first frost used to be around October 10, but the growing seasons are a bit longer than they used to be and the first frost doesn’t always kill all plants if it’s only 32°. But it seems tomato plants get blight most years before it freezes and kind of die off. Same thing is happening now with all of this damp weather. Plenty of tomatoes out there now though. I‘ld be glad to share as have plenty!

Freakin’ 99*. Sweltering.

Two more days of it. Then mid 90’s

A week from now we are supposed to get a break to mid to high 80’s.

Same here. I have more tomatoes this year than I can eat. Although the plants themselves are really falling off now. All wilted, but still flowering.

At some point you will end up in the jackpot zone... all summer my backyard was missed left and right, however it took one good complex of storms to roll through to break that spell of busts.

The last 10 days here have proven that, more moisture in that time period than in the previous 3 1/2 to 4 months combined in my backyard.

Hope you score heavy rain and some decent thunderstorms over the next several days Jaster.

Temp has been dropping steadily here. Went to pick up my son from Wednesday night youth group at church and should have grabbed a jacket. Low 60’s with a northeast wind of 20 mph. Lows tonight drop to 47. Been waiting a long time for this. Opened the house up for fresh air. Next week looks interesting with a cold rain and temps may struggle in the low 50’s.

The seasons first Frost Advisories have been issued for parts of the Northwoods where temps are in the mid/upper 30's across N MN this morning.  Plenty locals from NE/IA into the GL's have temps dipping into the 40's this morning.  Some peeps may be turning on the Heat in their cars this morning on the way to work.  #Autumn has made it's appearance and the longer range pattern suggests this is just a little taste of what's to come.

My father has been sending me pictures of the monsoonal rains that have been drenching the desert SW enhanced by the cutoff trough that has been spinning there for days and well predicted using the LRC.  This, is the tail end of what is to be a major shift if the North American pattern as we flip the calendar into October.  The state of AZ has been under a flood watch for a few days now and they sure do need the rain but when it comes all at once it does nobody any good.

We're expecting another Terrific Fall day with daytime highs approaching 70F along with crystal clear skies.  Great day to spend some time outdoors or have lunch outside on the patio/deck.  Love these type of days!

Yesterday’s H/L at Grand Rapids was 74/63 GR is now at 16 days in a row of above average temperatures. For the month the mean at GRR is now at 67.3° and at this time that is good for the 6th warmest September on record. That should go down in the next couple of days and we will see where we are at the end of the month. For today the average H/L is 69/49. The record high for today is 92 set in 2017 and today is the end of that heat wave of September 2017. That 92 is the 2nd latest 90 or better day at Grand Rapids as there is only one more later day with a 90 or better reading and that is 93 on the 29th in 1953. The record low is 30 set in 1947. The warmest minimum is 68 in 1920  and the coldest maximum is 50 set in 1942. Last year the H/L was 66/48

Happy Friday all!  What a way to finish off the work week with active wx in the forecast for today.  Models are all dialing in on another heavy rain event for the region.  Looks like several round of storms and potentially some significant rainfall.  HRRR and most of the CAM's are rather aggressive with 2-3"+ of rainfall area wide.

 hrrr_apcpn_ncus_32.png

That is a squally looking line later this evening and stretching across S MI....
