I was looking at February 1995, and for some reason Downtown Portland recorded 10 inches of snow while the NWS recorded only 3.6 inches? Was there some error measuring or something? Or did the east metro not get much at all?

The blowing and drifting at PDX and at points a little further east made their measurements with that storm pretty worthless. I would say most of the metro had 6-10" on average, with the heaviest totals in SW Portland.

1916-17, 1973-74, and 1988-89 all seem to be contenders.

Comparison between current SSTAs (top) and the same day in 1988 (bottom)...

This might legitimately take the cake for the most unstable sounding I've ever seen here.

18Z GFS continues the theme of a wet and chilly 4th... every run is showing it now.   Ironically its pretty nice on Sunday and again on Tuesday.   But the actual holiday seems destined to be cursed this year... which is probably fitting.    No 2011 type luck this year when it was sunny and 75-80 degrees on the 4th.   :(

Looks like 2010 was the last year to have any precipitation at all on the 4th. Quite a long time to have to wait.

Yeah, kind of a joke at this point.

Looks like I was hotter than PDX yesterday (101 according to some stations nearby) but cooler today. Same with snow, sometimes I can have way more or way less. In 2016/2017 I had 7 inches of snow more than PDX and in 2018/2019 I had half the snow the NWS office had. Downtown Portland had 1.1 inches while PQR office had 7 inches of snow in 2018/2019 which is a sizable difference. I wonder how my location did in historical snow storms/weather events, since the microclimates around the area can really make a difference.

I found this station 5 miles SSW of me that had some historical snowfall data, some interesting information was there compared to the official place.
Dec 1972: 7.5 inches of snow, coldest temp was 3
Jan 1974: Min temp of 10
1978-1979: 8.5 inches of snow, coldest temp of 9
Jan 1980: Only 5 inches of snow 😔
