29° here with clouds visible to the south. Moon has a nice hallow around it tonight. Watching the returns build in intensity over Pierce County.

Portland NWS lead forecaster just reported thundersnow for the first time in his 22 year career.

Also mentioned 4" per hour snowfall rates in that band earlier.

Insanity.

SLE has been stuck at 33 degree rain for hours. Ouch.

I was wondering if they are going to end up switching to Zr here pretty soon.

Trying really hard to channel any jealousy into joy for those getting buried tonight.

Truly some special stuff happening in Portland tonight.

Soak in in guys. Looking like a once or twice a decade type storm.

700mb low over Astoria, surface low over Coos Bay.  PDX is in the southeast quadrant of the upper level circulation - right under the moisture train - and in the northeast quadrant of the surface circulation which turns the gorge tap on full bore.  Perfect setup...

Starting to wonder about my flight tomorrow morning, though I'm betting they'll at least get the freeways and runways plowed as it lightens up, and maybe all this white stuff will scare enough Portlanders off the roads that it won't be gridlock.

It's on track to be more than that. Not very many times in Portland history they've seen 8-12"+ in less than 24 hours.

I think that's a conservative forecast at this point.

I can report not snowing anywhere in about 10 to 20 mile radius around Bonney lake

Did you really drive around that much or is this just comedy relief?

Very true. Could be more like a once every 20 years type storm if those totals do indeed come to fruition. Looking more and more likely.

The radar's just incredible down there. This would be somewhat notable even if it were all rain, but it's snow.

Crazy.
