PSA: The NWS always appreciates observations, especially detailed observations that everyone on here is capable of giving.  That can be done thru Twitter, as they often set up a feed for that, or the mPing app.  That can include final snowfall amounts, when the snow starts/stops, precip type, dew point, etc This helps them with short term forecasts as well as future forecasts as they can learn from them.  A few years ago they had a freezing rain advisory for Leavenworth, but I notified

Looks like a lot of moisture incoming. Hopefully it stays all snow. I don't need flight delays tomorrow.

My wife just got back from Eugene. She said I-5 started getting icy around the Hwy 34 exit. She got off the highway at Albany and tried to come the back way, which was apparently a very bad idea. Roads in northern Linn and Marion county are still really bad.

I was wondering, how does this cold wave compare (in terms of the entire CONUS) to other major cold waves, and similarities and differences between previous events? I know this was top tier in a lot of places in the Rockies and Northern parts of the PNW as well.

Maybe somewhat similar to December 1983?

Up to 33 here so the ice threat is over for Covington.  Talk about a SLOW warm up.

HIghest snow total (per event): 5.8 inches total 1/11/24 - 1/12/24.

Most recent accumulation (non trace): 0.20 inches on 2/26/24

Days with  trace or more snowfall: 12/01/23 (0.60), 1/8/24 (1.0), 1/10/24 (3.5), 1/11/23 (3.5 inches with Thundersnow; separate event from prior day), 1/12/24 (2.30). 1/14/24 (T), 1/17/24 (1.20 inches), 1/18/24 (1.5 inches), 1/19/24 (0.20), 2/09/24 (0.30), 2/26/24 (0.20-mainly graupel), 4/5/24 (T)

First Freeze: 10/27/2023

Last Sub freezing Day: 1/20/24 (12th) (8 days in a row from 1/12/24-1/20/24)

Coldest low: -12F (!!!!!!!!) (1/12/24)

Last White Christmas: 2022 at my location (on ground)

So far so good here... its like 32 or 33 and raining hard but the water is pouring off the roof similar to your video.    Definitely different than last night and this morning.

BTW that counts as snowfall accumulation in official records.

Ended up with really close to 2” of sleet here. And just a very light glaze of ice after. 
 

yep. Brought my seasonal total up to 31”.

We had bamboo during an ice storm in the early 2000s that looked similar. Temp went from below freezing to mid 50s in a few minutes as south wind kicked in and it made  whooshing sounds as the canes snapped back upright.

Just above freezing and melting off the trees and cars here, but the ground is still frozen and sidewalks are treacherous. Forecast is for heavy rain tomorrow with up to 1.5" falling. Will probably make the rounds on my block checking up on storm drains making sure they are clear.

It's been fun but at this stage I am ready for temperatures closer to seasonal norms!

North Bend is almost there now.  Been a long road for them to warm up.

My main takeaway from the last couple weeks was the European model was mostly right. Its only glaring issue was that it tend to run a bit too warm while the GFS was a bit too cold. I guess going forward, it’s safe to assume +/- 2-3F between the 2 models and that’s your middle ground. Those differences did drew quite a snow line.
