wx_statman
Worth mentioning - this is the latest 3" snowfall (officially) in Portland since Feb. 28, 1962. We just beat Feb. 19, 1993 by one day for the honors. Also, a first - this is the latest in the season that PDX has had a high of 34 or lower, with 3"+ of snow. Again, just beat out 2-19-1993.
VancouverIslandSouth
Looks like a classic. God knows we deserve it. These patterns seem to be a dime a dozen down in Oregon. They've been modeled numerous times here the past 2 winters, but they just never seem to happen. Perturbed Member
Hmm, strange. No melting here. The roads are covered and it is down to freezing. My mind is pretty blown yeah, I can't explain how that can happen. The snow I got from the very heavy snow earlier melted faster than the morning snow I got except I have NE winds now and it is night and the air temp is still 32.6F. snow_wizard
I have my doubts about the system tomorrow evening up here. These d**n things that slide down the coast get killed by the dry air flowing through the Cascade passes when they reach the Puget Sound lowlands. I honestly have to say it's almost unbelievable that Seattle normally averages as much or more snowfall than Portland given all of the hoops you have jump through to get snow here. Somehow, though, Seattle has still scored many great snowstorms in spite of that. As I've mentioned before one of things that really seems to kill us is when the western trough digs too deep. Seattle does much better when the trough only effects the northern part of the West. For whatever reason we have been unable to achieve that configuration since Jan 2012.
