June Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Meanwhile, in NE Canada, the vortex continues to smash winter records...on the summer solstice.

06z shows temps close to 100 down here on Sunday, then totally guts any sort of trough next week.

Fluke run... EPS is still quite troughy.

12z GFS shows our coolest 4th of July in years. Ah to dream!

Darn it! I was going to enjoy the day at my 3rd home with my private yacht docked out front.

Yeah... hiking in the Cascades and going out on Lake Sammamish on a cheap, used boat and paying $7 to launch definitely requires serious wealth that no one else can achieve.

A recent study found 40% of American adults do not have even $400 in their savings account. Hopefully everyone on this forum is a little better off than that, but for many Americans the idea of a "used" boat to participate in bourgeois luxury sports like "wakeboarding" is little more than an obscene display of opulence.

Why on earth would someone want to hike up and see a frozen over lake in the SUMMER. That is Baffin Island type stuff.

Really?

Like skiing as well.

Boat was less than a cheap, used car... wakeboard was purchased at a garage sale for $25... it cost $7 to launch each time.    I am sure its much cheaper than a meth or opioid addiction but everyone has their priorities!

It was 80 degrees up there.   Warmer than it has ever been on Baffin Island!

Skiing is WAAAAAAYYYY more expensive... and everyone on here spends all winter talking about the importance of the conditions at the ski resorts.     How insensitive to all the drug addicts who don't have enough money to ski.

That’s pretty warm for that elevation. My guess would be 70-75. Maybe it felt like 80 in the sun. :)

It is pretty cool that you can hike in the Cascades and see lakes frozen over or with icebergs in them until after the solstice. I have seen Goat Lake in the Goat Rocks wilderness stay frozen well into August.

I agree there. I do not care about the ski resorts, but the amount of snow pack is important for water concerns. Civil emergency on-going here in Salem due to the toxic algae bloom in their drinking water source. Directly related to the warm dry conditions.

So if you can’t afford to ski you must be a drug addict? Wow. You are pretty out of touch.

Nope... but ski resort conditions are deemed very important on here.    No one blasts people on here for being happy about good conditions for their opulent activities like skiing or snowshoeing.

Do you have car?   How dare you live in such luxury when many people can't afford cars or are homeless.

Sounds like your beef here is with Andrew, not me. The drug addict comparison just seemed strange. I guess resorting to extremes like that isn’t all that uncommon here.

Yeah... like saying that taking your cheap boat out on the lake via the public launch and using your $25 wakeboard is a sign of extreme opulence.

I suspect that there are millions of Americans who spend most of their disposable income on drugs.   That is their choice.   Boating is way cheaper though... and more enjoyable.

We all know your boating equipment is more expensive than that. And blaming drug use for poor people being poor is pretty myopic.

My son's 2007 Subaru (which he pays for himself by working long hours as a bus boy) was more expensive.

I wonder if it's providing welcome relief from the insects. I visited NF/Labrador in June back in 2005 and the swarms of insects in Labrador are insane. It's pretty bad also around the Lake Superior region as well in the summer. I found it interesting that there isn't all that many mosquitoes in this region really. The water is here, just not that many bugs for some reason.

I think you are taking Andrew’s joking comments too personally, and your overreaction is mostly just exposing your defensiveness on the topic.

For the record, my Subaru is a 1998 with over 250,000 miles on it. Still runs great though as long as I keep on schedule with oil changes and tune ups.

None of my family members in MN can believe the lack of mosquitoes here. They are almost non-existent in my area.

The areas that mosquitoes really thrive around here are high lake basins in the Cascades.

As well as my patio last night. B!tches got me a good 10 times.

Still hanging onto a nice weekend on the 12Z ECMWF.   Both days are warmer and sunnier than on the 00Z run.

Less rain in the c-zone area early on Saturday morning... and quicker clearing that day.    And then totally sunny and warm on Sunday with probably low 80s up here and upper 80s to near 90 from Olympia southward.

I have a boat and 3 used cars, the cars are parked in my double garage (2 of them, the other is homeless and sleeps outside). My house is really big too. I like the sun and water.

Bet it felt good to get that off your chest.

I only have about $1k in my "savings account". I put pretty much all the extra money I make into my mortgage payments and investments that yield much, much better return.  :)

I guess its white privilege to enjoy sun and warmth.   Disadvantaged people must prefer dark and gloomy.

Arizona and New Mexico are not wealthy states and they have endless sunshine... go figure.
