Monroe recently came into our radar as a possible destination. Probably a good place.

Don't know if I've been there, but looks like a solid location. Even just being a few hundred feet higher than Seattle would make a huge difference

My Weather Station:  https://ambientweather.net/dashboard/b415ff35b2d13f00c899051028f04466

Located in North Seattle, elevation ~150ft. Highest temperature ever recorded is 110.3, lowest is 14.5.

I've got a few "dream locations"-- some of them snowier than others. Anywhere in the Western Gorge has always been enthralling to me, Powell Butte in Central Oregon has some incredibly beautiful topography. Boulder, CO, has some of the wildest weather in the country and idyllic pastures to reside in. As for the snowless areas-- I've always been very attracted to the idea of living somewhere in LA or the Bay Area.

Seems a bit nuts to move that far away for snow. Plenty of places in the PNW would be better in terms of livability.

No offense to California or NY 😆

Ha, if it were only about snow then yeah, goes without saying! Doubt even Jim would move based on snow alone.

Have to factor in climate, geography, finances, and convince your partner to go along with it. 😆 Otherwise you’ll probably be miserable. I personally wouldn’t relocate somewhere with a super high cost of living and/or a shïtty tax code if I could avoid it (tho hard to get worse than here). And I need frequent thunderstorms to get me through the awful summer months.

I think he’d like Spokane. About 50"/year. Reasonably snowy without being insanely so, and not terribly far away.

KGEG hit the 50" mark today as a matter of fact.

I've been here since the winter of 18-19.  this is my 5th winter.  we've been between 38-53" each season in the period.  last winter was the lowest around 38". 18-19 had the 53". we have a pretty good shot at surpassing that this season,  the record is 97.7" in 08-09. wish I was here for that.

How high does this winter rank for you? Been watching those Lake Tahoe cameras with envy. 😂 But also with innate happiness. I always catch feels watching snow fall.

Right now it's my number #1.

2010-2011 finished with 310" but we had a 6 week melt period in Jan to early Feb so it doesn't feel as impressive.

Our first snow this year was 24" In the first few days of Nov. It has stayed cold with no breaks in the snow this year and no melting. very unusual for here. coldest since 1951-1952

Is my sarcasm detector broken or are you serious about this? I wouldn’t move to SoCal if Megan Fox agreed to marry me. A hard no.

That's why Seattle is actually my ideal climate. Except for the coldest days of winter, the temperature is very similar to my cool Oakland Hills climate and I like the overcast days. I really like rain as well as snow so I prefer it a bit more wet than the Bay Area but when I lived in Cannon Beach that was a bit too much for my liking since it doesn't stop from Oct-March or April. Felt like Lewis and Clark waiting for a sunny day so I could go on a date with my now wife.

I could do with a bit less gray than we get in Seattle but everything is a tradeoff and there’s no question this is a beautiful part of the world.

Yeah I'd go back to the Santa Cruz Mtns in CA for 'snowless'. although as we saw last week it occasionally happens at a high enough elevation.

I lived my whole life in SoCal through September 2020 and still go back there once in a while for work. When I do, I always ask myself, "Well, do I miss this?" The answer is always a resounding "NO."

Although I would have liked to have been there for the recent big storm. It snowed at my old house in Tujunga (El. 1,860'), which is something it never did in the 28 years I lived in it.

what I miss about CA (Santa Cruz and Long Beach) where I lived is the diversity of cuisine.  Spokane's food scene is improving but sucks in comparison.  this is a meat and potatoes and chain restaurant town.  I miss good asian and good mexican food.  Bland city up here.

I could maybe see living in Santa Barbara, although I would miss the snow and the fall color and I’m certain the endless sunny dry days would get monotonous. But LA? No way, not for me.

A lot of people I've talked to say LA is better than they expected. I think it has a lot of cool neighborhoods. Personally I've never been there. Also a plus that you can grow citrus and avocado trees down there.

You can grow citrus and avocado in Santa Barbara and have a lot less smog and traffic to contend with.

Quite familiar with SoCal. Lived there as a small child, have relatives there, and have visited many times. LA has some fun places to visit but is definitely not for me.

I visited Fountain Valley for work a couple times in the 90s. We drove a few miles from the office to Huntington Beach and had lunch outside at a burger shack across from the ocean, sitting in our suits next to a bunch of surfer dudes. I said yeah ok, I get why people like it here.

We lived between Escondido and Fallbrook in an area called Hidden Meadows... lots avocado groves and fruit trees.   We had an awesome view Palomar Mountain.
