gabel23
I like to use our towns grain elevator as a gauge for visibility; it’s about 2 blocks away and I couldn’t see it during the heaviest band! I went out and measured 3” of snow, not bad for October 14th. Last year we had our first inch of snow on Halloween.

Bryan1117
Winter Weather Advisory just issued for 2-4 inches of snow for the Omaha metro area. Snow is still coming down like crazy here, even accumulating on the side streets now. We easily have 1.5 inches of snow on the ground in my backyard... this is awesome! Winter wonderland out my window currently. If we get another 2-3 inches of snow, there might be issues with falling tree branches, as the fully leafed out trees are already being weighed down noticeably by the heavy wet snow.

Also, due to the wet and heavy nature of thesnow - even 3 to 4 inches may cause some local tree damage andpower outages to areas that receive the heavier snowfall. Theadvisory will expire at 7 pm this evening.

bud2380
I was hoping we’d get some flakes here but it isn’t looking too likely based on trends and models. Everything will likely stay West and north of here. It’s still possible later but it won’t be anything like the fun you guys are seeing today. Congrats to those seeing the snow today. Hawkeye
This is a pretty impressive system. Frankly, I don't want it because I still have 4-5 hummingbirds and it'll be tough enough for them when the plants die in the morning. 5" reported near the UNL campus, where it accumulated quicker this morning. Bryan1117
Just measured about 2.5 to 3 inches of snow in my backyard in Southwest Omaha, NE. Snow is pretty much done here outside of a little leftover light snow and flurries, and it's already starting to melt. Power outages now up to nearly 55K in the Omaha metro, reported by OPPD. Thankfully no power issues in my neighborhood (almost all the power lines around here are buried underground). Drove around a little bit and there are some large tree branches down, not widespread, however enough to cause issues. This system drastically outperformed my expectations, I was expecting a little bit of snow with no more than a half inch of snow - which I figured would melt off after a 65 degree day yesterday. Glad I was wrong!
