Greenland vortex finally gets dislodged and now we have persistent lows in the GOA. If this is a regular thing like the Greenland vortex, we can probly fork next winter too. So 20-21 is looking like the next decent possibility.

Yesterday that same hour was showing mixed rain and snow for some areas of Puget Sound.  Much warmer with this run.

The euro is super splitty with so much arctic air to the north, what a waste but bears watching, slight shifts can make a huge difference.

There wasn't any real snow yesterday either.  The total snow maps are always an illusion, very low resolution on those, that is why the NWS never uses those.  At most a few places in the hills would have had a couple of hours of mixed precipitation before temps warmed up rapidly.  I live in snow country, and have learned not to take total snow maps seriously.  There have been times when it has showed my area with 30 inches or more of snow when 4-6 inches is more realistic.

0 for Victoria. An inch or 2 around the Malahat. Quite a bit more north of Cowichan. 3-8”

Pretty much. Maybe a dusting over northern areas if you are lucky. Looks like some possibilities coming up, but I’m worried we are missing a favorable window.

Met an old timer in chesaw yesterday that was born here in 1933 so of course i had weather questions lol. I asked what was the coldest he's seen here. -51 in 1968!! Deepest snow 67 inches in Jan 1969. 55 inches jan 1950 and 59 inches December 1996. The -51 is colder than the state record by a few but i guess that's possible. Very cool talking to the Man.

If I asked my 91-year-old grandma how much snow she received in Jan 1969 she'd probably look at me like I was crazy, and she's as sharp as a tack.

Certainly looking like 02-03 is still on the table in terms of effects in the Willamette Valley. Not sure about Western Washington.

My dad remembers 1969, he showed me pics of the deep snow and his 1965 Chevelle SS all chained up! He lived in Edmonds at the time.

Even that season was definitely a bit better up to this point. The Halloween airmass and a fairly active December with some light snow in northern areas.

Maybe 50 or so per year. We usually get them in conjunction with high winds, gusts past 160 mph.
