January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

It's ridiculous. What interesting weather have we seen this winter except 1/6/19 so far?

Again, this is the new normal. It didn’t used to be this way before like 1995 but it is now. We just have to take what we can get or find a way to head just a few clicks east if you can one day.

Ask the people in North Puget Sound if they had any interesting weather.  I am sure they will respond, that is if they have had their power restored after the biggest windstorm in more than 10 years.

But it is an El Nino year, whether it becomes official or not, so you can't realistically expect anything that interesting.

Perhaps I should have asked whether the Willamette Valley got any interesting weather. Would have gladly taken that windstorm.

Spent some serious time researching tree's in Maryland and how big they can get. This is Acually the largest tree ever grown in Maryland.

Almost as tall as a Seattle snowdrift. Lol.

Any pretty ten day Euro maps this afternoon?

We have been outside for the last 2 or 3 hours... will post them when we go in for lunch if someone has not already.

I don't see why anyone would be upset by that.

I don’t know, I guess I feel guilty for being over-bullish on the early January period, only to watch nature find yet another new way to screw you guys while the rest of the northern hemisphere scores.

As shocking as it might sound, I do have some degree of empathy. :P You guys are due.

Either the wind is wreaking havoc or something may be off with SEA's thermometer. The last 24 hours there look extremely stupid, especially compared to Boeing Field.

#mostinterestingweatherstoryof2019

East wind reaches there and then it switches to the west or south and then back to east then it dies again.

12z GFS, GEM, ECMWF

Rather interesting progression Days 8+ on all models. Hmmm.... Cautiously optimistic.

I don't know if I missed it, but what were your thoughts on the 1/6 windstorm last week? Did it behave according to expectation?

Can’t we hire one of the NFL chain crew folks with the signal pole ( with built in auto update software linked to the world of navigation ) to follow the magnetic North pole? We would then have constant updates to our navigation system ....If the North Pole moves more then 10 yards it’s a first down too!

It’s the new normal. Been trending this way since the mid-90s.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!
