February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

Power was out last night and have no cell service here.  Surveyed the property this morning to the sound of trees cracking and snow falling off branches.  I lost two crabapple trees with their trunks bent to the ground and have cedar boughs broken and littering the ground everywhere.  Only got 3" total from the storm but the rain on top of what I had really did some damage.  Currently 33F with light rain.

Its surreal to see this much snow at our house... but its happened before and it will happen again.     Palmer reached a peak snow depth of 5 feet in January 1950 and again in 1969.    And we had this much in December 2008.    Periods like this skew the annual average snow fall here way up... and then you have years in between when nothing much happens.

Looks like PDX is down to 37 now on an east wind. Most other metro area locations around 40 as the front slowly sags in. SLE still gusty out of the SW, but up here in NW Salem winds are almost calm. EUG popped to 50, the warmest place in the PNW right now.

I would love to see it. I thought we had a chance this week when we hit 15" snow depth yesterday morning, with 15" in the forecast today, but it wasn't meant to be. Silver Falls hit 47" snow depth in January 2008 and 32" in December 2008. Deepest I've had since I lived here was 26" in January 2012.

Per cams it just switched to wet snow at Murphy Hill (650') between Salem and Lincoln City.

It always switches in the coast range but never in the valley. Happens everytime.

Went to Port Angeles for the first time in August after our wedding. My wife has some family friends up there and we spent some time with them. They live on the edge of town to the south on that hill, so I bet they are totally buried. They are older so I hope they are doing okay. Gorgeous area. I would move there in a heartbeat.

Per Seattle NWS twitter 50" at Snoqualmie Pass in the past 48 hours.

That is absolutely nuts.

The amazing thing about this event is the low level easterly flow coming down Snoqualmie pass!  Maple Valley, Renton Highlands and east to North Bend stayed snow this entire time with huge totals.  Rain on Kent East Hill to the west and south.  I turned to rain, not far from these area's yesterday around 3:30pm and I live at over 550' so go figure.  For those that got hammered, the rest of us south of Renton are living vicariously through you!  Keep the pics and totals coming.

Rain tapering off finally

Whisky barrel falls will be frozen for some time though. Had to prime it every day as the ice kept building and break away ice from the pump area. Now I can sit back and enjoy winters masterpiece as it slowly melts away

One of the snowfall maps from like a week ago showed 39 inches for Port Angeles. Looks like that was 15 inches too low!! Holy smokes!

EURO wants to keep the Willamette valley in the upper 30s Thursday and then bump to near 50 Friday before settling back down with highs in the low 40s for the weekend. Next week appears to be mostly dry with highs in the low-mid 40s and lows in the low-mid 20s.
