June 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

Ridiculous how US 20 to OR 126 from Bend to Eugene isn’t a freeway. Horrible bottlenecks and stupid drivers.

Just thought I would post some surface maps for this upcoming troughy period... have not had much time to do so in the last few days.

My son loves WSU and Pullman though.   Go Cougs!    :)

Back in the S Valley. Beautiful drive but slow as Christmas. So much space to make a freeway. Sucks but maybe one day the infrastructure can get more efficient at getting people from the major urban areas of Oregon over to Bend and the rapidly expanding area there.

So you think we should punch a four lane freeway over some of the most scenic and pristine country in the Oregon Cascades just because you’re impatient?

A freeway in the McKenzie valley would totally ruin the remote character of this place. Huge construction and maintenance costs too. Just seems unnecessary.

And the last thing Bend needs for its sprawl situation is a giant funnel over the Cascades dumping more Californians over there at 75mph. ;)

Don’t you guys have extremely low taxes there. Maybe make a motion to increase your tax rate in return for an extra couple lanes on your highway.

No we love complaining about everything but also refusing to pay higher taxes this side of the 49th. ;)

I want more people in Oregon and better infrastructure. I’m weird but I miss efficient infrastructure like in Texas and California. Cutting down some conifers esp in the burn scar areas is vital for more people. More $ in the state. Like I said, I know people don’t agree with me. Just my opinion. Yes, I like to go faster and not be behind 4 semis going 35 mph and I can’t see the scenery.

You’re going to power wash the moss off of the sand between the stones? Why not just scrape it off if he didn’t want it. It’s natural stone, I think the stone will hold up.

If you can keep it off the stones, then it’s no issue. But moss will degrade them quickly otherwise..I’ve had pressure washing jobs where it’s so bad that you can’t blast the moss off without blasting large chunks of stone off in the process.

First segment of the trip will be on the coast. Maybe I should delay the trip by a few days if I don't want the coast to be socked in with fog all day?

I usually don’t even leave town unless 500mb heights are progged to be above average for the duration of my trip. Simply no way to enjoy traveling otherwise.

Vinegar or bleach, or try some zinc powder. All should kill moss. Zinc could deter regrowth.

Heh, I’ve never heard of vinegar being used.

Unfortunately we’re not allowed to use bleach here (it’s still permitted in Loudoun County, though). And Zinc powder isn’t an option thanks to the sycamore roots that would be damaged.

Except that was a genuine question. I'm not as familiar with the weather on the immediate coast. Overcast is fine, I don't care, but if I plain can't see anything from sunrise to sunset, I'll be disappointed.

If anything a trough down there would probably inhibit the typical coastal marine layer pattern this time of year, by keeping things more mixed.

Like I said, I know people don’t agree with me. I’m a weirdo but I love going fast. Also, a major issue for starters is the terrible quality of the roads. Tons of potholes and patch jobs fux up our car.

Nice to see an equally retarded discussion get resurrected to purge our minds of the last one. Thank you Phil.

Lol. Moss is retarded.

Honestly dude, it’s is a gargantuan pain in the a** for the hardscaping community here since there are so many regulations on chemical control thanks to the Potomac River being such a large contributor of pollution into the Chesapeake Bay.

That’s just the nature of mountain roads. You can’t have a freeway going everywhere. Maintenance costs would also skyrocket. Maybe you’re willing to start paying a toll or something. Also do you really think a four lane freeway would be easier to maintain/be better maintained than the current two lane? You are talking twice the road surface to maintain all of a sudden. That isn’t going to magically become easier since it’s a freeway now.

And why on earth you think more people being in Oregon is a priority is truly beyond me. You must like sprawl and congestion. Those don’t go too well with getting places fast. Look how much worse Portland traffic has gotten the last decade alone.

Traveling between cities would be faster and mountain roads are far better maintained in WA and CA IMO. And yes, I’m weird. I want more people here. Traffic in the city is what it is.
