June 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

like I said I know it wasn’t a uniform 20 inches but it was pretty solid winter for the most past outside of SW WA and NW OR.

 

It was definitely quite good from Olympia to Bellingham and Medford to Eugene. So a significant chunk of the lowlands. But two of the three major cities in the region also didn't see much. Things just never lined up for a regional event, unfortunately.

As for roads, we definitely need to build more roads in the PNW. Very poor planning by local and state governments. Portland and Seattle have terrible traffic for cities of their size. We also need at least one and probably two 4 lane divided highways to Central Oregon. 26 and 20 should be widened and improved in this manner. Perhaps a Warren Presidency will inject the needed stimulus into infrastructure.

Thickening marine layer and a noticeable NW breeze this morning. Low of 58, 61 currently.

 

Today should hit low to mid-70s or so, then it’s possible tomorrow and Thursday stay in the 60s.

Pretty clear that the upcoming rain event is going to be drizzle. Any precipitation that comes from it is probably going to be pathetic.

sorry I meant that it felt like forever since it rained last. English/writing is not my strong suite but am slowly getting better as I actually need it more in the construction world than math science which I am stronger in.

12z Euro is a thing of beauty but it's too bad that the PDX area can't get some more rain out of it over the next 7 days. 

 

Looks like by days 7+ a really nice wet front moves through. Gonna need that to avoid another top 10 dry month.

Maybe it’s the camera, but those trees across the river look like crap to me with the exception of a few. Thin foliage biased to the exterior and spotty crown dieback.

60 and mostly cloudy here on McMicken island out by harstine island. Kayaked 7 miles from Allyn starting at about 9am. Was pretty drizzly this morning on the way from Tacoma but drizzle seemed to let up about 20 minutes after I got on the water. There’s a Few breaks in the clouds here. Overall not a bad day.

Someone came to me saying that they heard on Facebook that the Grand Solar Minimum will make this the coldest summer in a century and next winter will be unrecognizable. Hopefully he joins the forum.

Everything you read on Facebook is 100% credible no questions asked lol. Hopefully we get a repeat performance of last winter this year.

Everything you read on Facebook is 100% credible no questions asked lol. Hopefully we get a repeat performance of last winter this year.

 

The first three months of last cold season (November-January) were utter dry trash. Worse than 02-03, in fact, because at least that winter was wet (crappy November but impressive December and January). In late January, snowpack was under half of normal in the Mt Hood area, skiing was all hardpack and ice throughout January, and people were sticking forks in winter.

 

I don't want a repeat performance. I want a proper center-loaded winter with lots of rain and snow in Portland. Too bad those don't happen anymore, aside from the Great Miracle of 2016-17.

It's too early to be classified as a Grand Solar Min. Doesn't mean he's wrong, though!
