September 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

It’s a tough call, but I’m leaning towards midwinter for a cold pattern this year. If I’m right (big if, haha) there’s a decent chance the early part of winter could be fairly ridgy with a quick flip to very cold in January.

But again..low confidence for now.

I agree with you that November and even into the early part of December will be ridgy but I think the quick flip to very cold happens during the 2nd week/mid December. Too many analogs/cycles are pointing to December IMHO.

Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I'm siding with Tim. It should be relatively warm and mostly dry this time of year. All of the mountain snow will melt out before winter. I'm done with this cold and rainy white. It shouldn't happen until November.

For me, I've always rooted for as much rain and stormy weather from September to mid November. If it's a warm or cold rain doesn't really matter to me. Just as long as it rains. I love extreme weather though so I'd never pass up on the very cold anomalies we just experienced.

I would love a 2003=2004 repeat. That was an excellent winter, for sure.

That season did feature early snowfalls in Portland as well, just to show that if this Fall ends up really cool it may not be a bad thing for the rest of winter.

I experienced my earliest lowland snow event in Nov 2003 where I used to live in Wash. County. 2 months before the big one we all remember.

October had a couple good t'storms roll through Beaverton. Some of the wildest cold core storms next to the one in 1998 that downed a few trees near my house in Milwaukie.

Early January 04 featured the biggest ice storm I've ever experienced. The icy cold east winds were just relentless.

January 2012 was pretty bad here in Tacoma that wasn’t a Portland event though. The 2004 event effected Tacoma too if I’m not mistaken, I honestly can’t remember it specifically since I was 5 at the time.

Luckily it stayed all snow up here during that event.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Yeah, about 6" of snow, then maybe 5-6 hours of freezing rain in Tacoma.

2012 was much worse, from what I've heard.

I assume you are talking about 2012, must have been snowy up there in the north interior.

Oh man, the southern charm is where it's at!

Give me some brown sugar candied bacon on a burger and I'm a happy man.

Fred meyer has brown sugar bacon in the meat case. Get some and bake it at 375 for 20 minutes and let me know what you think. It is so good you will giggle when you taste it.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Wow NWS is actually going for below average temps with above average precip for our region.

October megaridge incoming?

I’d be more worried if that’s what they were showing for DJF.

January 2012 was a massive snow event up here. November 2006 was pretty legit too. We can score big time when the arctic air hangs up around Olympia and cold onshore flow is streaming copious moisture inland to the south.
