Low of 46* @ 6:44 am currently 48*

SE PDX low of 44 and currently 46* ( east wind overnight around the (6-10 mph)

Wind kept going until 2am then the temp dropped 8 degrees in 4 hours here. Maybe it’ll get down to the upper 30s tonight but it’ll be in October instead. Earliest low in the 30s I have on record is October 11th, maybe we beat that record this year.

Gfs shows light rain a couple days this week before a nice system moves in early next week. Looks slightly more impressive on this run than the 06z.

Looks like everywhere in the I-5 corridor between Portland and Eugene has, except for Troutdale and Aurora. They both kept the wind overnight.

Had a -10 departure yesterday but still +1.1 on the month.

The CPC analogs on the last few GFS runs are insane.  Besides 1971, 1985, 1955, and other great ones that had been showing up we now have 1956 and 1968 making strong appearances.  1956 is another year that had a significant Arctic blast in early December.  That winter went on to have a great January also.  1968 of course was pure gold.

Places that didn't do too well for cold last night due to wind or occasional cloud cover will do very well tonight.  Everything will be perfect for  max cooling everywhere.  It manged to drop to 40 here in spite of a breeze for much of the night.  I'm thinking 30s IMBY before midnight tonight.

The 12z GFS is perfect for much below normal temps with the trough early next week.  It digs perfectly to produce northerly surface pressure gradients while heights and thicknesses are still quite low.  This run has the lowest 850s yet for that feature.  I'm thinking the ECMWF will come around at least to some extent on the 12z.

Absolutley incredible snowscape at Mission Ridge this morming.  Over a foot of powder on the ground with huge icicles hanging off the buildings.  This is unquestionably a record shattering event for the month of September at that location.

The 6z GFS legacy was really pretty for early next week.  It's going to be fun to see how that trough plays out.

Continued good news on the solar front.  September will be the third consecutive month to have a monthly sunspot number of less than 1.  That beats any stretch from the previous cycle.

Nws going with lows in the 30s everywhere except downtown Seattle tonight in the Puget Sound region basically. They definitely think it’ll be colder tonight too, should see upper 30s even at my house.
