I think EUG somehow managed a low of 19 during January 2012. They also had an 8" snow event two months later.

You seem pretty invested in this. We will probably have another long stretch of well above average weather sooner rather than later so don’t worry. I don’t think the current cold event was the beginning of an ice age from everything I can tell.

Yeah, about 6" of snow, then maybe 5-6 hours of freezing rain in Tacoma.

 

2012 was much worse, from what I've heard.

 

2012 was an epic forecast bust. It was forecast to be one day of snow, then the marine air would flood in and turn it all to rain and start melting it. Instead, the cold air held at the surface while the marine air came in aloft and it was a day of heavy snow followed by a major and destructive ice storm. I was in West Seattle at the time and remember waking to rain, going outside to feel how mild it had gotten overnight, and being greeted by unexpectedly frigid air and ice everywhere (with more falling).

They were always obvious to this American. The Canadian $1 coin has a picture of a loon on the back. The $2 coin came significantly later, and its name is an obvious Portmanteau of "two" and "loonie".

The U.S. penny now costs more to manufacture than its face value, but our Federal government tends to be a little on the slow side when it comes to realizing the obvious and implementing the obvious solution.

Just hit the 30’s here now. Coyotes don’t mind the colder weather, they are very active tonight and cackling in the woods right next next to the house, my Border Collies are convinced they need to go out there and run them off.
