MossMan
GFS was not bad again in the long range. Definitely looking more interesting. Continues to be a big warm outlier in the January 3-5th range. Ensembles are also starting to look quite a bit wetter. Thanks for night shifting it! Front Ranger
1936/37 was El Niño but did not feature a super vortex in Alaska or a super +NAO/+AO. 1929/30 had a huge Alaskan ridge/-EPO. So neither are cases of a broad/flat Aleutian ridge singlehandedly delivering cold into the PNW in the absence of a -ENSO/-AAM background state in the tropics/subtropics and/or additional blocking downstream. You are still misunderstanding the whole flat ridge thing... 1 Quote A forum for the end of the world. SilverFallsAndrew
Many of the ensembles really start cooling things off around the 3-5th of January, the last couple operational runs have held the troughing off a few more days and been a warm outlier in that mid range.
