June (July) 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

I have a very good feeling about regional Arctic and snow events this coming winter.

With how 2020 is going expect split flow to dominate until 1/1/21.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

12z GFS was completely dry from start to finish for the majority of Western WA/OR. Lines up nicely with what is climatologically our driest time of year.

Nice thing is it never shows highs going above 90 through 384h. Stays in the 70s and 80s the entire time with mostly sunny and partly cloudy skies alternating days. Looks like summer weather perfection.

Perfection! Other than I would not mind some shots of rain at night here and there. But considering just how much rainfall we have had already this year we will be just fine up here during a dry spell.

Monday a burn ban takes effect for Snohomish County! I expect they will soon start having a year round burn ban. The bans lately don’t seem to be very dependent on dry conditions.

Still pretty green up here. I have a big burn pile, but it’s probably going to sit until October.

Nice picture. Is that Mt St Helens?

Rainier, if I’m not wrong. Helens looks pretty distinctive due to the eruption damage.

its quite green here after more than 6” of rain in the past six weeks. I.

did some burning today. Usually when they have a burn ban here it continues until sometime in the fall. They are okay with recreational fires with a diameter of 3’ or less.

Things have dried out pretty quickly down here south of Seattle. Grass is all yellow despite recent rain and there was a pretty big brush fire I saw on the way home from work on highway 16 near the narrows bridge.

Burning regulations are never enforced around here. Unless you inadvertently start a wildfire. Then you will be on the hook, so it makes sense to call it a season around July 4th. We have had nothing more than drizzle in July, but June was nice and wet.

Brother was Kayaking Crain Prairie and took this shot of the fire in La Pine Or.

Wonder if it was caused by a Lurker...

Finally a weekend day with full sunshine from start to finish... the first one since Mother's Day weekend.

It was an absolutely perfect summer day.     And another one ahead tomorrow.

I know the humidity is persistent there Phil but the 90’s here is still hot. Even when it drops to 50’s at night. The sun is just blazing daily and it actually feels hotter than it is. I don’t wish humidity in anyone but the sun with no clouds for weeks on end can be almost as bad.

Lots of smoke visible over Northern California, Oregon, Nevada and Idaho on the satellite this morning.

Hopefully a smoke free year on the west side of the Cascades.  Only time will tell but off to a good start.

Low of 55 currently 62*  with some cirrus clouds coming in from the NW

Hot is hot, no question. I’ve visited Scottsdale AZ during the summer when it was 110°F (and Leavenworth WA a few years ago during a heatwave) and that s**t sucks too.

It just doesn’t suck quite as bad as swamp heat. Not just because of the heat index and drenching sweat, but also because there’s zero relief at night. You go out at 10pm to get the mail or whatever and come back inside 2mins later and it’s like you’ve been in the shower. A Tim wet dream, literally.

No its not.

I think yesterday was perfection... sunny and 82 with a dewpoint of 53 and a light breeze from the north.

You just want someone to blame.
