Banks lake has been fantastic...heading home tomorrow. NEOWISE has been very bright here has been visible 3 nights in a row! Comet has been much easier to spot here with 0 light pollution and a good pair of binoculars.

All these people exploring the wasteland that is central and eastern WA.   Why anyone would ever go exploring east of the Cascades is beyond me.    I have also heard stories of people going over to the wasteland of eastern OR. 

 

Chelan is a particularly terrible area...

I spent last weekend at Lake Billy Chinook. It was gorgeous. I talked to some locals and they say the reservoir levels only vary by 6 inches per year which is crazy for a reservoir that large. No one was wearing a mask at the marina store. No one. Except me.

 

I saw Neowise the other day from the middle of town with plenty of light pollution. It was pretty underwhelming. It was nearly impossible to see with the naked eye, but easy with binoculars.

 

Here's a couple of pics. I didn't take many. I'm a bit of a geology geek.

I love Lake Billy Chinook. Great kokanee fishing there.

My streak of sub-50F lows has stopped at six.  Low this morning was 53F after a high of 80F yesterday.

Just looked at the high/low temps the last few days it hasn’t hit 80 in Tacoma yet this month. Got to 77 yesterday. Has been hot here compared to western WA in the upper 80s.

Kayaked that area a few years ago! I Enjoyed a spectacular sunset like yours shown but then almost got nailed by a flock of geese skimming the water once it was dark....lol, will never forget that!!! I couldn’t see them but heard them coming at me.  Felt the wind from their wings as they flew by on both side of me.  Thought I was going to get a beak in the neck! 

Highlight of the trip was and early morning paddle into a cove and a mountain lion came to visit. I sat still and just watched in amazement!!! The cat was scratching logs and pouncing along just like a house cat.  I was only around 70 feet from him but he didn’t notice me.

Speaking of analogs..lots of year 11s on there.

 

1955, 1977, 1988, and 1999 all among the top 00z GFS analogs.

 

2 great ones and 2 duds the following winters down here. Hopefully -ENSO and a favorable system state will be conducive to some sort of top-tier regional event this time around.

I drove through Culver. The idea that anyone from this forum lives there is laughable. From what I could tell, the entire town consists of one convenience store.

A lot of people live in that area though. I believe Crooked River Ranch is considered the Culver area. About 5,000 people live in that development on tracts which are about 1-10 acres.

Not that I saw. Redmond is nearby though. I wonder how close I was to High Desert Mat. One thing that area has is some of the best Cascade views in Oregon. At one point, I think I could see 10 peaks at the same time. Much more than Bend.

Dewpoints were unexpected high here today as well. Ended up with a high of 78F with the dewpoint hovering around 62~63F most of the day, even now the dewpoint is still 60F, where usually it drops off.

First time I’ve seen the models in a few days it looks like it’s going to be a bit warmer finally. Have only 3 80+ days should be the warmest weather so far this year at this location.
