Phil
The off-equator NPAC (5-20N) is still experiencing anomalous trades, consistent with the -PMM/-PDO. Very unlikely to be a PDO/PMM flip associated with this El Niño, which puts it in the camp with pre-1976 El Niños that occurred in conjunction with the “cold phase” NPAC. Last time this happened was a half-century ago. The 2009/10 event tried, but it had a very different evolution (modoki type) and AMM/AMO signature was dormant. Also that westerly burst in the NATL and IO is the canonical expression in +AMM regimes. If the EPS is correct, off-equator NATL SSTs will spike again later this month as wind-evaporative cooling effect is attenuated. Normally you’d expect this in the NPAC at the same latitudes, but alas, not this year. 2 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=72 "Western troughing literally kills people at this time of year. HuskyMaestro
Read about how at NOAA and NWS actively look for computer science majors who know the heavy conceptual programming for their weather models, and that's where I could come in. Always saw weather as a fun hobby but now I'm heavily considering to actually enter the field after numerous failed attempts with applying for traditional tech jobs. The industry is pretty miserable. But combining weather and CS, it's something that would at least get me out of bed every morning lol. 7 Quote 𝘐𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴, 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘯. 𝘗𝘶𝘺𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘱.
