There was a FB feed up here in one of the Bellingham community pages last week where someone moving to the area was trying to get a sense of the rental market. I was shocked to see someone not too far from me paying about $3,500 per month for a 2,200 sq ft house. I don't think that included any utilities. Granted, its in a "nice" neighborhood, but it doesn't have a mountain, bay or lake view. A lot of home rentals were in the $2,500 to $2,800 range, and a studio apartment goes for at least $1,500-$1,800 in town.....just crazy! We pay $1,800 for our mortgage, insurance and property taxes for a 2,800 sq ft house. Granted, we got in when the market was very low (2013) and we refinanced to a 2.24% interest rate in 2022, but still.... The other half of the "crazy" equation, we bought this house for $330k in 2013, and it was valued at $880k at one point last year. It has settled to a more "pedestrian" $680k this year. 1 Quote Britton Rd Bellingham Weather Station: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KWABELLI103?cm_ven=localwx_pwsdash

I would pay CAD $1000/mo more in rent for my current place if I hadn’t first signed a lease during the pandemic and since benefited from rent control (and Vancouver wasn’t exactly a low-cost city in 2021).
