I think pretty much any microclimate in AK is good enough for most people who love snow, except parts of the Aleutians and the extreme SE.

Valdez averages 300" of snow every year, despite not being bitterly cold.  Never been, but the pictures of the Sound and the mountains look gorgeous.

It's amazing, though I could see how it'd be quite depressing in fall and spring with a lot of cloudy and dark days.  Moving all that snow must be a great work out!

No way.   Going weeks without seeing the sun would suck so bad.    I don't care if its warm sun or cold sun... but a couple days a week makes a world of difference in these dark months.

The emotional swings on this forum run to run are crazy. I'm not saying that it is going to be cold and snowy, but it's very likely that the models will go back to looking good and everyone here will be happy, only until the next run is bad and then everyone will cancel winter. And they'll do that back and forth for a while.

I'm calling a good 12z EPS and ECMWF.

New here?

Dude... I am not going to interfere with anyone's fun tracking the models.   My posting remains consistent throughout the year.   I would love to see people have their snowy wishes come true.   Ideally western WA and the WV gets snow while your area is warm-nosed.    😀

And you seem extra depressed today.   Get outside if its sunny.   Its good for you whether you realize or not.

I think it was 2012 where we had the worst pullback. Models showed 20+ inches in seattle and 2 days before it all disappeared. That may have been the first year I found this forumn.

That was January 2011. I remember that clearly because it was the same winter that had the heartbreaking Boxing Day blizzard bust here. Coast to coast rug pulls that winter.

Exactly. No SE ridge to torch Phil and keep the cold to the west. Tendency is always for cold to dump east.

Rare to get a SE-ridge in a strong niño. Especially second half of winter. Guidance sometimes shows it in the long range but it never really verifies.

Yeah I have a few frogs already croaking here as well. This was a few days ago when we were in the 60’s.

We had 14” fall one evening in January 2011 and it was basically gone by the next afternoon with temps in the 50s and a SW wind.

Yesterday didn’t torch quite as bad as advertised, which was nice. Ended up with a 50/39 spread here. Morning and afternoon rain at times, then an evening low with quick clearing after sunset.

Foggy today and on the more seasonable side. Current temp is 44 after a low of 37. Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years Eve 🥂
