Yeah... on 10/28.   And then Randy's dad shortly after.   Rough end to 2023 for us.

My mothers aunt passed away Christmas Eve. Mom forgot to tell me so when I asked how she was doing on New Years was quite the surprise for both of us.

Perhaps a November 1996 repeat! A low was supposed to track just like the one this week is looking to track, and was supposed to only be a Whatcom special after a very brief rain/snow mix…Well it came in south of Olympia and blasted everything north of it. Rich Marriott was stunned but each weather segment of the morning news that morning he kept saying that the snow that was falling would turn to rain any moment…That moment never came and the puget sound had a wide spread snow event. Ended up with 6” or so at my place. I still have a VHS tape of King 5 news that morning and Rich being in disbelief!

Good ole Rich Marriott. Jeff Renner was cut from the same cloth on snow too. Always talking about how it would warm up and turn to rain. King 5 hires all the non-weenies

The graph cast shows the -8 850 line making it to Everett on this run.  Further south than the 0z.

I am very picky on burning wood.

Mine is seasoned 2 years and I only burn fir and Madrona.

Look how clean my window is on the stove, I haven't cleaned it in a year.

When the power is out we cook on it and it works great.

A wood stove is a must have for me.  As you say you can cook on it on top of using it for heat.  People with no backup heat source are living dangerously when a storm comes with really cold weather.

Friday night was the first time since I've lived here I actually had to turn the heat on while the stove was kicking out at full capacity.  That is mainly due to the wind and fairly poor insulation.

Fir is my absolute favorite, although I was able to get ahold of some Garry Oak one year and it was awesome.  To take it a step further old growth fir from Central WA is even hotter than the stuff on this side of the mountains.

We have seen that a lot in recent years.  It’s such a fine line once the trough digs out over the ocean.  The arctic trough gets hung up In Northern Washington as low pressure develops offshore.  It was nice to see a real airmass swing through.

I agree. Actually having arctic air for once has been a nice change of pace. Even though we never really even had an upper level blast down here, the low level stuff was powerful enough to give us a good taste of the stuff you guys have had a few time over the past 5 years or so.

Got some light snow flurries and wishing I had listened to my 7 year old who said I should put my snowboard out last night (I had it drying off inside for a day). We had some unexpected light snow this morning and I didnt' realize it actually stuck. we had somewhere between a trace and a tenth. I put my board out again and cleared my backup spot for measurement too. I might just give myself a tenth but not sure yet. Today's forecast was no precip and clouds turning to sun. Also I went outside without a coat and my bare hands for about five minutes and was not cold nor did I feel any signs of frostbite. Currently 11F. Still a bit worried about ice for my location in a few days.

I put mine out on Wednesday.  It didn't get much of a workout unfortunately.

BTW...I had a happy ending to my frozen pipe dilemma.  We caught it soon enough that I was able to put a radiant heater outside of the house where the pipes were frozen, which heated the wall, and it kept them from freezing any harder.  Today they thawed from the heater and no leaks!

I’m glad you had a happy ending. 🤪

Seriously though, one of my outside faucets is frozen.

SEA had a spike to 30, but is now back down to 28.  Good timing on the clouds today.  A good chunk of tonight looks crystal clear.  Should be many places in the 10 to 20 range again tonight.

No reason to think we won't have a major blast next winter if the ENSO flip happens.  Strong Nino to Nina almost always delivers.  The expected +QBO makes it even better.

25 degrees here so far today after a low of 10.  I was outside earlier today and still have that wind coming out of the north.  I'll be curious to see what this week brings.  Unfortunately, my neighborhood seems to be amongst the first to warm up (at least in the hills east of Bellingham), so I don't have my hopes up too much for anything exciting.

Baker was closed yesterday, but just had life flight fly over the house on a return trip from the ski area, so I guess it must be back open today.  At least is wasn't a Navy chopper, that usually means a back country hoist rescue.

28 feels sooo warm now! Last week it would have felt frigid!

We were out frolicking in it, beats 48 degree rain anyway, that’s for sure!

My kids wanted to put the little snow that accumulated on the bottom of the slide on Thursday into a container to keep it.
