March 2024 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

36 and light rain at times here. Looks like the best round of precip we’ve seen in awhile is making headway here if it indeed does hold together and makes it before 10am could be fun. The theme so far though has been for things to fall apart as it crosses the sound.

If that keeps up you might start running into power issues!
Coming down quite well here now, not sticking though.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Cloudy dry and 35 this morning.

That convective snow band of central Vancouver island looks intense  5” since 6 am at the Black Creek highway station

The ranking of that area as a place to move if I ever leave Vancouver (which was already high) just went up another notch this morning.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Just light snow now but a few more bands heading this way. This had been the best snow event of the season because of how hard and fast it hit here. This is a bunch of snow for March here.

Cumberland?

I have friends that used to live there.  I think they still own the house as a rental.  Much snowier than comox itself.  Really nice little town.

Yes Cumberland. They even scored a nice snowfall in October last year.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Just called weather service and told them we reached warning amounts out along the canal lol. They asked if it was only sticking to grass and trees lol. I said umm no, there is 4 inches on the road, it was a heavy snow event and it's still snowing. He sounded shocked it was 32 degrees.

The mm5 uw nailed this one. Had about 4 or 5 inches here

When you say mm5 are you talking about the WRF GFS.  This is what it showed through 10am from the 0z yesterday

Had a little burst of snow for about 10 minutes about an hour ago.   Next band that just came through only produced a few random snowflakes.   Sky is quite bright now and looks like the band that produce the Hood Canal snow sort of fell apart as it moved east.   Lots of activity farther south but ECMWF says that moisture will slide more east than north over next few hours.   Also shows a fairly strong south wind developing across King County by noon.

I get it’s challenging but they really underestimate our micro climates. I sent them a message last year during the snow storm in North Bend as the EURO showed continued east wind. They told me it would warm up but woke up at 630 in the morning and it was 31 degrees.
