March 2024 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

50F and partly cloudy.

Starting to lose feeling in my hands. Really tingly now. Let's see how much longer my brain can hold on before it's off to the hospital...

LF analog composites keep getting worse and worse for summer. Horrific coast to coast death ridge signal all the way through. Looks like some 1930s s**t.

Go farther NE. Our plan is to catch the eclipse at Lake Loramie, OH.

But maybe you’ll catch a tornado instead. 🌪️

Yeah we have plans made for if we need to go NE. I think the furthest we're willing to go is the missouri/Illinois border, I don't think further than that will be worthit. Ideally in Arkansas though because we made backup reservations there.

Do you think that'll be far enough NE?

I experienced on of these hatches in Tennessee in elementary school. An insane 2-3 week period. The bark on all trees were covered with bugs, the bark looked alive. The noise was deafening. We would throw tennis balls into trees and a cloud of bugs would swarm out. We would then swat them with tennis rackets.

Looks like I might get snow Wednesday night

Sunriver is 100% getting snow next week, but I won't be here for it. Probably will see some snowfall on the 6th in Wyoming though, so I won't be missing out on much.

so glad we don't have cicadas out West.

Yep. And not only are they annoying, apparently they let out enough piss that you can feel it, so this year everybody in the east is going to be getting constantly pissed on by the cicadas.

It’s going to depend on where the ridge sets up shop in the continental USA. In order for us to get big time heat we usually want to see cooler air east of the Cascades and/or Rockies so we can get offshore flow.

Can't wait for the daily updates from Phil. Fortunately, profuse perspiration quickly clears the cicada pee from one's pores.

The KGW forecast was from two weeks ago.

To be fair, the timing of the warmth, sun, clouds, and precip matched up pretty well in both forecasts. Easy to see how he'd make that mistake.

Yeah, saving a TV forecast and then accidentally posting it 14 days later. We’ve all been there.

Last one for today, because I know that with each reply you only grow stronger, but the cool air east of the mountains driving offshore flow is typically more of an autumn type heat pattern.

Can’t say at this range but my hunch is the farther NE you go the clearer the skies will be.

Ended up with a 62/40 day here. Morning high overcast then puffy clouds and blue skies the rest of the day. Light offshore flow with the system to our south. All in all a pretty nice day.

We had ours in May/June 2021 and holy s**t it was loud. When I spent more than 10 minutes outside my hearing was muffled afterwards for the next hour or so.

The buzzing ones were so loud my phone couldn’t handle the decibel load, you can hear how it gets kind of fuzzy at each crescendo.

That’s less than 12 weeks away. 😱 😱 😱

The days do get shorter but summer still lags behind. The average peak of summer here in the continental USA is July 24. So more than a month after the Summer Solstice. Out here west of the Cascades we usually peak the first week of August. Some areas on the Coast are even later.

It was also amazing to watch how they overwhelmed predators by sheer numbers.

The first day they started emerging there were birds and squirrels everywhere eating them like candy and I was thinking how hell do they survive such predation.

But the number emerging kept increasing each night, until those crunchy crawling sounds filled the night air, and every tree was encased in cicada husks. It was an onslaught, almost beyond comprehension. They just kept coming. Predation was overwhelmed within a week.
