Yeah why isn’t anyone going up to Maine? That would have been my first choice, especially since it sounds like the Texas path is going to be just crawling with people.

I think the time in totality is shorter or something up there.  I think MO was supposed to be the greatest.  but snow + eclipse would be awesome

Buffalo would have been very easy since the center line of the totality path goes almost right over the airport there.   You could land in the morning and walk outside and watch the eclipse and then go right back inside and catch a flight home.

I'm only taking a day off work so just not quite worth it with the time it would take to get out there between flying and driving a rental car up north of Bangor. MO/AR/TX was a little more accessible.

Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, or Illinois? Leaving moab tommorow morning so I should be decided on where to view the eclipse from. It seems like Texas is the worst of the 4, right?

Pretty significant change for the EPS at one week out compared to its 12Z run.   Looks like next weekend will be quite troughy now.

Where you chasing the eclipse? Arkansas? Texas is a no-go at this point if you want a good chance of seing the eclipse. Of course it could be clear in TX, but it's much more likely to be clear in AR/MO

Yes. Sticking to the original plan of trying to see it in the Austin area. The whole shifting motel reservations by hundreds of miles every time a new GFS run comes out approach isn’t very appealing to me.

Not too hung up either way. If we luck out with some clear or even partly cloudy skies, fantastic. Going to make a solid effort to chose the best spot within reasonable driving distance from Austin that day. If that doesn’t pan out, not gonna whine about it too much.

Every model shows the further northeast you go, the better. It's not just the GFS.

Goodluck with your cloudy eclipse, I hope you get a clear one, but realistically you're probably screwing yourself if you're staying in the Austin area.

Jessie's going to implode in mid 80s degree heat in Texas, while I soak in and enjoy mid-upper 70s in NE Arkansas/Missouri

The ECMWF also shows lightning happening right during the eclipse in parts of central Texas.

There is a video of something similar happening in Nebraska during the 2017 eclipse.

Currently 41 with dribbles.
.12” so far on the day, .95” for the month, 15.34” for the year.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Judging by how many forum members are traveling to see the eclipse, and the fact that my other set of In-Laws that live in central California and never go anywhere are traveling to see it…That swath of the states will (I guess IS at this point) be seeing tourism like never before!

I don’t understand spending a bunch of time and energy to see a two minute eclipse. Especially when we just had one here a few years ago. To be completely transparent I don’t remember much about it. I thought it was going to be the most incredible thing I’d ever seen, but it just got dark for a couple minutes and then the sun came out again. It’s rare, I get that, but other than that, we’ve all seen the sun go behind a dark cloud for a few minutes and come back out. It was like a more intense version of that.

Unsurprisingly many educators are taking a medieval approach to the eclipse.

The thought of flying across the country to see the sun go away for a couple minutes isn’t appealing to me either.

I would want to be somewhere in nature and avoid the large crowds. I would choose to watch the total solar eclipse 🌑 somewhere in the Ozarks. It’s beautiful and kind of reminds me of the PNW.
