January 2021 weather observations for the PNW

Heatwave low of 26 degrees compared to 8 yesterday at KLMT.

Winds have calmed significantly, mostly cloudy and 32 now.

I think around the time of the snowstorms early that January K-Falls had a good one too. A former member of the facebook group lived down here at the time and there was a lot on the ground.

Started getting light snow about 30-45 minutes ago, very light fluffy flakes.  It's sticking cars but that's about it.  Currently 33.

No sign of snow in Victoria, but it most of East Vancouver Island saw a dusting last night. It's particularly snowy north of Nanaimo this morning, this is between Parksville and Comox:

Lol, I was watching that little guy overnight to see if he would take flight?!? Tie downs did their job.  All the Learjets hightailed it outa there on another note.

Snow is picking up here, starting to stick to everything but the road.  I was in the process of packing up to go  snowshoeing on Baker but now I am wondering what the road conditions will be.   Not worried about if I can make it but I don't want to be doing 25-35 the whole way...

The observation on the web cam page now says wind is SSW at 21 mph gusting to 18 mph.

Still a couple inches of wet snow this morning, but the melt is now on. My dogs have torn it up pretty good too haha.

Just checked the NEW AND IMPROVED GFS! My goodness. That thing gets very chilly/cold. 

Also the GEM as Timmy posted looks pretty decent. Hopefully the GFS and EURO come around.

Slushy rain changed over to wet snow about five minutes ago. No accumulation, radar says it all should be over soon. Temp 34˚F DP 32˚F.

12Z ECMWF not doing well on the first frame... it shows that around an inch of snow has already fallen in Seattle this morning between 4-7 a.m.

12z Euro showing 6+ inches of snow on February 1st. Within 5 days!

Honestly, if the Euro shows <2 inches in a borderline airmass situation, it's probably going to be a trace or snow in the air result.

I can't remember what it showed. 

It seems the Salem area was generally on the high side of model output.

Last several runs have shown the first couple days of Feb starting out pretty snowy down here.

Some consistency. Dries out after a few snows though.

Global warming is starting to hit quickly now.

12Z ECMWF seems to have more potential by day 9... more amplified and there appears to be a ridge bridge in the block.

This is just incorrect... there is no AR of snow heading to CA.   There is no AR of rain or snow along the West Coast at all right now.    The storm heading into CA is the same storm bring the snow to the Portland area.

 

Have the weather channel on this morning and they say this is and AR hitting down south at least currently.  Looks like the target zone is Fresno area.
