Major dumpage currently. If it was 17 degrees cooler we would be having a 12/30/21 in the early morning redux minus the early morning part.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Been raining most of the afternoon and evening up here with 0.4" in the bucket and 3.68" on the month. With the additional 3/4" that we'll probably pick up by Friday we might still end up below normal up here for the month (which I think is just over 5").

Not to wishcast but February has “that feeling” to it again. The hammer will drop before season’s end IMO... Been a while since we had two good separate cold snaps in Seattle. Maybe 08-09? 13-14 and 16-17 included a lot of near misses and only a few days in which snow fell.

Suddenly you have become much more trustworthy to me. I'm sure it's because you know what's gonna happen and not any snow bias in my head...

I'm just glad we had the late December snow and cold snap. Anything that happens now is extra icing on the cake. It really makes so much of a difference for enjoyment of the winter. If we hadn't had that, think about how desperately we would be hanging our hopes on February.

For Tacoma north, Dec was an exemplary 21st century event. My high of 23°F was the coldest in NE Seattle since Dec 1990. Hard to top that, especially in conjunction with the epic Arctic frontal band that brought 2-4”/hr snowfall rates, the highest I’ve ever seen in my life. I would be satisfied with this winter if we ran out the clock without another flake.

Unfortunately the event petered out south of OLY, a common theme of the last 3-5 years.

For Vancouver BC, Dec 2021-Jan 2022 was the best cold/snow event since 1968-69. If only that blocking ridge had set up just a hundred miles further east... It could have real been big for most areas Medford north.

Had to look it up... that town has a surprisingly Seattle-like winter climate given its at 63N.     The big climate difference is that summer in Seattle is much warmer and sunnier.

Pretty incredible this far north.  Also frustrating! It’s 46 today and most of the snow is gone!

I love to learn about new places.    I thought Norway was more like Alaska.    I guess that is more inland and away from the coast.    I don't think he traveled there just for a winter getaway.    But that location is interestingly almost exactly like Seattle in the winter and I did not expect that.

The Gulf Stream goes up the east coast of the us and straight into west Norway. I saw the current sea ice map the other day and the warm ocean temps are very well depicted there.

I’m curious what metrics you are using to conclude that about Vancouver

December 2021 ended up being out best snow event since probably March 2012. As for cold, it was nothing to write home about, though we did manage some sub-freezing highs. Our last real impressive cold was early January 2017. February 2018 and 19 both got a little colder too, it was a great event though. If we can manage a few more decent events and a chilly February and March, this winter will be tough to complain about.

Last night's CFS was incredibly wet for W. Oregon during the first half of February (And mild.). Not quite as wet for Washington, with some cold air sneaking in north of Seattle at times. Then after Valentine's Day a very cold air mass drops in.

GFS shows it staying completely dry for a week after this little system on Thursday moves through.

We'll have to see if we can manage any "fake cold" out of it. NWS is liking highs in the valley in the 50-55 range for the foreseeable future. If we get any kind of fog or stratus deck that will bust big time.

Completely shut the city down, too. They are used to snow, but not that much.

P.S. You could always move. If you have an in-demand career, it’s not that hard….
