Amazing how the cutoff low just ruins everything.  That stupid little thing absorbs an Eastern Pacific hurricane a bit later and then reeks further havoc on our pattern in week two.  Pretty much write off a cool August before it begins.

Yeah....I know there was 5 in a row in July 1941 in Seattle.  The longest streak I know of.  Could be a later one also.

July 2015 also had 5 days in a row at 90 or above

This is the third time for five in a row at seatac. Will be the first for six in a row if they reach 90 today.

SEA has 3 of these instances.  ‘41, ‘81, 2015.

I am bummed about our summers.  They are 90% of why our glaciers are melting.  No question that at least for now the raging 4CH has become normal.  FWIW there is evidence from distant past precip records in the SW that aspect is cyclical.

From a 500mb perspective, we've basically become part of the desert SW from July 15 to August 20. Without any of the benefits from the monsoon.

Nah, it leads to more of a propensity for offshore flow. Or at least flatter thermal gradients overall. It’s the primary reason, with all things being equal, that the average highs on the coast remain at their peak for much longer than inland valley locations.  For example, Astoria’s seasonal max is 69 and remains there until 9/11.

This is probably why our autumn crashes have been so pronounced in recent years.  Once that 4CH gives out it just plunges.  I am seriously wondering if a cool summer is even possible anymore.  June can be cool as we saw this year, but sometimes the 4CH doesn't get it's act together in time to make that month torch.

The ULL is not driving the pattern.   The pattern is driving the ULL.   It's a warm pattern.

SEA is running 6 behind yesterday at this time, but I think they still make 90.

As for cool weather this week.  The latest EPS still showed 4 days in the 70s.  I guess that's better than nothing.

Late summer clippers can certainly be bad, and there's a high chance for one this year.

June may not have been a total torch but it certainly wasn't cool.

77 degrees and sunny here in Minnesota.  Perfection.   Everything is lush green although they say it's been a dry summer.   We left North Bend at 7:30 a.m. yesterday and arrived at 9 a.m. CDT here so 23.5 hour trip with two stops for sit down meals

EUG had been understating what the conditions here are really like. "Mostly clear". More like very hazy and has been for the last day and a half. Thankfully, the smoke hasn't filtered down to the surface yet.

One thing to note is the fact that AK and the WGOA continue to get pounded with a continuation of this pattern…

Even the heat dome of last June was at least partially the downwind result of a historically strong system in the GOA a few days prior.

Didn’t we experienced a similar pattern couple winters ago in the early winter with a semi-permanent Aleutian low? A pattern that didn’t break until late winter. Except this is now in the summertime?

PDX recorded an inch of snow with that event, I don't remember it, it might've been more of an north/east metro thing maybe.

I have an electronic indoor/outdoor thermometer and I keep a close eye on it mornings and evenings. As soon as the outside temperature is cooler, I open the windows and set up the fans. As soon as that ceases to be the case, I close up.
