Snow falling/accumulating beats any kind of snow just sitting there. Or melting, fast or slow.

True. I now realize I did not give the winter of 2011-12 it's proper due at the time.

Absolutely.

I love solid snowcover as much as the next guy, but I've never understood the hate on transition events. Go out and enjoy the heavy snow for however many hours you get it and when it turns to rain, go inside and look at the pictures you took.

I'd rather a 6" snowstorm that lasts 6 hours than a 2" storm that lasts a few days. More dynamic.

Snow since February 2019: 91"

2023-24: 6"

2020-21: 14.5”

2019-20: 10.5"

2018-19: 24.75"

I take what I can get. Really don't care if it's 6 hours long or 6 days. It is what it is. I enjoy it all. Considering how rare it is around here. But I still become baffled at anyone who let's the weather determine their moods.

I disagree with the last part so we can't be friends.

1 year ago this date. Massively rare squall line thunderstorm with around 8 flases/rumbles, a few close booms. KLMT had a 67mph gust when it arrived. Pea to small marble size hail and winds around 40-45mph up here around my house.

Winter t'storms are uber rare east of the cascades. Last January t'storm occurrence here was probably in the 70's.

Long stretches of cloudy, drizzly, cold weather in the warm season (May - Sept) gets me down.   Primarily because it does not feel like the warm season and prevents warm season activities.  We can hike year-round so I don't count that as just a summer activity.

I really don't care care any longer what happens between October - March.   Expectations are very low.   Snow and cold are always a bonus.   Give me some periods of offshore flow between the rainy periods and all is good here.

There are actually a lot of hikes that can only be done in the summer because of snowpack. Some high elevation places are only open a few months a year. Your family nature walks to city parks are definitely a year round thing though.

It does not have to be 55 and drizzling in Portland for you to enjoy hiking at 6,000 feet.      I realize that some hikes are only accessible in the summer... but you mock more traditional summer activities at every chance.    ;)

Ugh...I don't even want to do this right now. Such a worn out and boring argument.

I figured the hiking comment was directed at me, though. :)

I had to throw it in there.    I know I am going to be attacked for not thinking of the people who want it cold and dark all summer so they can hike every single day for months and months!

Obviously I am exaggerating for effect here... not to be taken completely seriously.   ;)

The Russians will have full access to the GFS by then. Moscow weather coming to Portland.

Clever.    Sadly they might have access to much more than that after tomorrow.

This makes literally zero sense.

Jesse said some hikes are only accessible in the Summer because there is too much snow the rest of the year.

55 degree drizzle in the Summer has absolutely nothing to do with his comment.
