The look of the sky has sure changed here.  Smooth slate grey instead of the typical mild / rainy look.  Winds are flat now.

Its not hanging back from this storm... its an arctic front later tonight.

Here is what the 12Z ECMWF shows overnight...

Fair point. The initial Arctic front is moving down the Sound now (ushered in by passage of low), but then you have the big boy coming through later that will drop temps into the teens.

I would agree with that if the temp was 36 or even 38, but 42, I think we are shut out.

It dropped from 41 to 32 in Seattle in under an hour this morning.

will be interesting. Those fronts can drop A bunch of snow fast.

What I don't like is how the ECMWF has been shifting that band a little northward with each run... that tells me the arctic front is a little weaker than originally shown.

Not sure about that... at least not in Seattle.   ECMWF shows the crash that happened this morning but still shows temps in the 32-34 degree range all night.     I know... the ECMWF was too slow with the wrap around snow this morning.   But it takes a strong arctic front to have a flash freeze.

Here is the 10 p.m. temps per the 12Z ECMWF...

Be aware it is already colder in the Everett area than what this is showing.

For sure... the real cold air appears to come in from the east tomorrow night.

Why are people talking like this is over?  Really bizarre.

I don’t see why it can’t be discussed? They based their decision off of a WSW that didn’t materialized last night. That was what the cancelation was about. You even said it last night you didn’t have a good feeling about it Jim.

I don't think people understand the dynamics at play here.

Maybe so... but I want to see a strong arctic front plowing through western WA in the models and the ECMWF has been trending the wrong way.

I did say today would be our chance.  Just look at what is happening right now.  Snow line is plunging south.

There is so much low level cold so close already.  This is a weird scenario.  Snowmizer said he is already seeing a flash freeze where he works.

We want a 12/26/21

What obs would one look at to track that? BLI-SEA gradient?

2022-23 Winter:

11/29: .25" + 1" = 1.25" | 11/30: .25"

12/2: .2" + .5" = .7" | 12/3: .2" | 12/4: trace

12/18: .4" | 12/19: .2" + .8" = 1.0" | 12/20: .2 + 1.5" = 1.7

1/31: trace | 2/14: trace | 2/22: .2 | 2/26: 1.0"

Total: 6.7"

And maybe it will happen.   But I would prefer the ECMWF show it happening.   It was right about the warm spike this morning but too slow with the cold air wrapping around.

Euro going back and forth between 0" and 1" in PDX what a nailbiter. Good run this morning! DARE I SAY we should trend it to 1.5"

It’s gonna be such a close call… It’d be nice to have at least have a white table cloth set out before cArmageddon sets in Thursday evening.
