I would even go so far as to say the configuration with the -NAO looks more favorable for major snow events here. This would make an excellent topic for its own thread. NAO was also slightly negative and west-based in 1949-1959. Phil has posted the maps to prove -PNA often occurs in tandem with -NAO. I always thought -NAO was bad for us also, but I've changed my mind. Eh.
