I'm still not that convinced though.  Strong trade wind burst ongoing, Equatorial subsurface temps lower than this time last year, sky high SOI, tanked MEI, etc, etc.

Fairly impressively Goldendale has already dropped to 32 during the afternoon.  Decent shot of cold air.

In actuality falling during the day isn't too bad.  They have also exchanged a lot of coldness for drying of the air mass.

GFS ends with blocking again.  Going to be interesting to watch the 10th to 15th period going forward.

Looks like we will max out at 44. Breezy north winds but the DP is 38. Temps overall look pretty weaksauce it’d be impressive if we saw these types of temps with a blast in like early March. High temps in the upper 30s in late January is weak.

I love days like this with the north wind and clearing skies. Especially compared to the gloom we’ve had for the last few days. But it’s a little bit of a letdown compared to what seemed possible a week or so ago.

Kind of an interesting radar signature this afternoon. A front of heavy showers developing in the metro, moving in from the NE.

Wind suddenly picked up from the east here and have some moderate rain with ice pellets mixing in currently. Temp is down to 41 after a high of 45. I imagine this must be the arctic front.

Down to 39 here, drying out with moderate east winds. The mid level clouds were racing from NE to SW earlier ahead of the front. Kind of made me long for powerful, dynamic arctic front, ala 1990 or 1989.

URGENT!

...WIDESPREAD ICY ROADS EXPECTED TONIGHT

Cold air is filtering across the region from east of the Cascades
tonight. Any liquid water remaining on surfaces this evening will
freeze overnight. This will result in potentially hazardous travel
on untreated roads and sidewalks as early as 10 PM Saturday night,
but more likely after midnight. Please slow down tonight and
exercise extreme caution as it will be very difficult to see where
surfaces are icy.

 

It was 44F DP 40 like 25 mins ago, now 38.5F and DP 35. Hopefully see some snow in the air at some point. I might drive out west into the coast range later.

Nice... that cell really exploded as it moved west.   The ECMWF has been showing this happening this evening every run for at least 5 days now but was not sure how it would play out.    We had some light rain for about 45 minutes here and then a few snowflakes and now it looks like its clearing out.

A ton of convection that summer, but ironically also our quietest fire season of the last several years. No long dry spells or high end heat really helped with that. I’d love to see another summer like that.
