Phil
I’m surprised at the extent to which the west-Pacific warm pool has collapsed this year. It was a juggernaut as recently as last August/September. Now we we’re running the lowest relative warm pool index values in more than two decades. 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=

VancouverIslandSouth
Severe thunderstorms hit the UK again (http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44317432), another reminder of how different our climates are in spite of many similarities. I'd be happy with a few decent showers, but apparently that's too much to ask. Only 0.31" of rain for the month of May here.

Phil
I know it’s way out in clown range, but the D10 Euro is impressive looking. The vortex completely evacuates Greenland/Baffin Bay and establishes over Alaska and Western Canada, like the good ‘ole days. There’s not even a hint of a cyclonic signature over Northeast Canada/Greenland. This corresponds to a more retracted Pacific Hadley Cell (knock on wood) and helps cool the high Arctic. Phil
And the 12z EPS agrees, for the most part. Big trough D9 onwards, as “part 2” of this subseasonal troughy pattern commences with a jet extension under the lower frequency AAM back-cycle that has helped establish the -PNA.
