January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Requiem

Recommended Posts

Clock is ticking... The ice sheet should be approaching your place in three years and that will drastically complicate your efforts.

One of the most complicated parts of this home is the off grid power system. But with the technology today you can really do alot of cool stuff with the solar.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Or if you drive across the state to catch a snowstorm.

Some people drive across the state for other thrills too.  Quite the waste of gas but there it is.

5 miles south of chesaw. Are you familiar with the area?

Kinda. When I lived over there I worked with a guy that had a place in Loomis. It was gorgeous, right on the water.

Have you had the cinnamon roll at the Wauconda Store?

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

when i get my house done everyone is invited to come check it out and play in the snow if willing to make the 6 hr drive. Should be about 3 years because I'm doing it all out of pocket.

Would be the perfect place to have our first official forum meet up!!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Man, Boston area weenies have to be getting frustrated. Logan Airport has still only received 1.7" of snow on the 2018-19 season, and they are about to get screwed by yet another storm.

They have a gnarly windstorm for Thursday. Not snow, but at least it's something active.

Nice little system moving towards central Vancouver Island this evening. The Latest NCEP analysis put this low at 1006mb, but this is 2 hours old. It should be worth noting that the low is 4mb stronger than 12z UW WRF-GFS modeled. Even this evenings 00z UW MM5-NAM is 2-3mb too weak. I do have to wonder if this low intensifies further than forecast as there is impressive darkening and dry slot noticeable. This won't be a wind storm, but it will bring with it some breezy to gusty conditions tonight.

Impressive. I'm really hoping for a January 1980 redux, though I doubt it'll happen. I'm excited to see what unfolds anyhow!

On another note, the PDX-EUG gradient is starting to increase.....

Just an FYI. The 1980 event everyone talks about was around the 10th, the one on the analog map was later in the month. It was wicked cold, but had no snow.

That sounds like a legitimately excellent month if it had two arctic events of note, both quite impressive!

Yes, the first one wasn't much south of PDX. The 2nd one was more of a regional event. But it was a legitimately cold January. In fact I don't think most places in the Willamette Valley south of Portland have had a colder January since.

EUG at least was colder in 1985 and 1993. Almost as cold in 2017.

What's really crazy is EUG was more than 2 degrees colder in Dec 2013 than Jan 1980.

FWIW, there are some larger-scale parallels to that December 1996 pattern. Just a question of how far south the cold gets before the anticyclone upstream retrogrades too far W/NW and the troughing spills offshore again.

Bryant should be cautiously optimistic. Lol.

Just make my avatar come true and I'll never complain about the weather again lol
