East Dubzz
Not that it's really going to matter all that much in the end, but it'll be interesting to see how quick the rain changes to snow tonight. Extremely short lived snow event, but I may have to wake up during the night to see the snowfall, because I wouldn't be surprised to see some very nice rates for a brief period.

jaster220
@ Tom That's more like it! The Euro is a little bit colder at 850 compared to the GFS around here which is showing more snow. I'll take this run any day of the week in October. Surely, this would be a historic snowstorm and stat for the KC region to have back-to-back October snowfalls of greater than 1". What I like seeing is the storm track which is a classic KC/Chicago/Detroit snow storm if this would be Winter. Perfection. Hawkeye
DVN discussion .LONG TERM...(Tuesday Night through Monday)ISSUED AT 250 PM CDT Mon Oct 28 20191. The GFS indicates a signiciant winter storm for our local areaTue-Thurs. All other deterministic guidance does not.OK, we ought to add one more bullet there, but the forecast isalready cold, with clouds, and a rather unsettled and messy forecastin hand. The front to our south will continue to see rain and snownorth of it through Thursday. Whether a synoptic storm rides upalong this or not is the main question, with the GFS showing a longduration dendritic snow event, and the GEM a positively tiltedsheared out trof, with little or no forecast. The 12Z ECMWF remainssomewhat inbetween these to extremes, with a long duration lightsnow event. There is pleny of cold air aloft for now, and though thedendritic nature cannot yet be confident, aloft, most allprecipation will be snow. Thus boundary layer is more marginal, withsaturated air, possibly going back and forth between wet snow andrain. Thus, I would not place much faith into any snow lasting fromone 12 hour period to the next. If, big if, we get snow, then abreak followed by more snow, we may full well melt off the priorsnow and start over. Models are unlikely to ever resolve that issue, but that's how I see this taking place. 1 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

jaster220
Let's see bud...so far, I like how this pattern is evolving and I got this feeling our region will make up for the last few years of disappointment. "Copy that" In a purely winter form, this system reminds me of a cross-up between Jan '79 and Dec '00 the way the swath of snow is unfolding and the long duration fronto-genisis banding, followed by the wrapping low bringing the winds at the end. I pretty sure this would be a classic BD if dressed up in winter temps. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

I agree with the bolded...in future cycles, this pattern could easily produce those results given how these troughs dive S out of B.C into the inter-mountain west along with a slight SER. The clash between the air masses in future cycles are going to be eye candy. Frontal boundaries have been common so far this month. Keep that Bermuda High just off shore and we are in business.

Tom
Tom- are you included in this hvy snow circle? Yes, but accumulations won't be as much as those farther west of me. Warm lake is not a friend during October snows.
