March 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Can’t believe I have to wait until 10:30 for the GFS ensembles now. The Euro used to be halfway done by then! :(

Count yourself lucky. Us east coasters wait until 1:30.

Wineries galore in those areas!

Yakima and Richland also have beautiful wineries.

We absolutely love going over there... seems like some of you really do have a problem with low income demographics and areas that have a large hispanic population.   Not sure how else to explain it.   That is too bad because there are some absolute gems in eastern WA.

Right, because hanging out at the golf course and winery in Richland screams immersing yourself in low income demographics

I imagine Wahkiakum and Garfield Counties are both jam-packed with some lovely buildings too.  Besides the courthouses of course.

I don't think Cowlitz and Lewis counties have a high Hispanic population. Don't think many people would willingly move there, though. Much better small town/rural areas exist in the NW.

I was in Forks this past weekend. Town has (probably) seen better days. Spectacular area though, even with its lack of posh golf resorts.

The Olympic Peninsula is probably my favorite part of the region, along with the Oregon Coast.

That area is AMAZING.

Oregon has some really nice small towns. Grants Pass, Ashland, Jacksonville, Brownsville, Silverton, Dallas, Newberg, Hood River, The Dalles, Joseph, La Grande.

Most of the small towns in Washington seem washed up and methed out. Oregon has some of those too, like Creswell and Cottage Grove, but not as many.

The Tri-Cities most famous former resident.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennewick_Man

1280px-Kennewick_Man.jpg

He likely lived during the largest, most northward-displaced Indo-West Pacific Warm Pool regime since the last interglacial. Glaciers melting all over the NH. Super wide Hadley Cell/ITCZ and a 4CH so steroidal today looks like the LIA by comparison.

Poor fellah.

Speaking of relocations I might be heading to Omaha sometime...I got into Creighton University and they have a nice business school. Would certainly be a change of pace, that’s for sure.

Congrats! You’d see some kick a** thunderstorms there. Blizzards and extreme cold too.

Pretty much the entire weather enchilada except for hurricanes.

So what should we do in this horrible state Andrew? Never go enjoy all the activites in those areas? We have a blast and love it every time we go. I don't really care if you think its all a meth wasteland.

Watched them beat Seton Hall on Saturday. Bob Gibson went there...Bonus points if you know who that is without googling.

Washington is a beautiful state. Pound for pound more natural beauty from the Cascade Crest west then Oregon for sure.

The theme of course with the depressed towns is that they were incredibly reliant on the timber industry and have never recovered from its collapse, and just haven't found the right mix to bring in new industries and tourists/retirees.

The smaller towns in western WA nearer to the water don't have that issue, as tourism has boosted them. The San Juans are lovely, as are places like Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

So you will allow us to go over the mountains and enjoy the beauty and warm weather and activities in that area even though there are some economically depressed areas and a high migrant worker population and you seem to find that repulsive?

Thanks buddy!    I appreciate your blessing.     :)

Sure seems like that is what he endlessly mocks. Too bad for him. He is missing out some wonderful things. I don't really give two sh&its about his opinion of eastern WA though. :)

Awesome.

So stop disparaging areas that are run down in your opinion. Sort of like the Seattle debate. It's pointless and divisive.

We love it and will keep going over there to areas you deem undesirable. And we are not alone.

I’ve been to Phoenix, Arizona, all the way to Tacoma, Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.

Steve Miller’s place is still for sale up in the San Juan’s...I think!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I still remember hearing about the inordinately fat, ugly denizens of the PNW and their mossy, unkempt properties.

Yeah... and that was pointless and divisive. And many years ago. Same thing Andrew is doing.

Obviously a good chance this will be PDX's third cold March in a row.

March temps have actually been pretty reasonable for the most part since 2008.

I do remember March 2014 or 2015 (or both) being among our warmest on record. But I could be wrong since the grab bag of record warm months the last decade kind of blend together after awhile.
