January 2024 Weather in the PNW (Part II)

15F, snowing hard and an angry icy east wind. Waited since the Feb 2014 event for a cold snow event like this and it is finally happening.

14 degrees with heavy snow still out here and looks like it’s not gonna let up anytime soon. East winds are so crazy blowing snow everywhere. Getting some huge gust!

Despite all their 5 min obs sitting at 19, SLE officially hasn't gotten below 20 yet. Hopefully they can or they will extend their record smashing streak of no sub-20 lows. They've been the previous record by 2-3 years.

Nearly also made it their first <20 high.

A little snow mixing in with the sleet now, but precip remains pretty light, as it has been the past couple of hours. 

Meanwhile Sunriver is down to -2 with 1/4 mile visibility.

Nice to see Portland is getting snow in the teens. Had a low of 9 here this morning. Nice to see I pulled off a single digit temp from this.

Possible on the back end this evening. The next 2-3 hours are going to be the peak of the warm layer.

For WA people... ECMWF starts off right away as freezing rain on Tuesday evening.   But fortunately it's short-lived and warms up just after midnight pet this run.

Nope, it’s still offshore and will remain there until sometime this evening. Heavier snow is on the way later this afternoon!

0.48" of precip the past 6 hours in Eugene. Precip rates pretty anemic right now, looks like it's mostly snow, just pixie dust falling and drifting around.

Mostly sleet with some snow mixed in the last hour in Oregon City hilltops. Hoping it’ll change over to all snow at some point but this beats ZR

Down to 10.9 now, windchills well below zero. Just went out and drifts are a few inches deep. Snow just blowing sideways.
