The trough next week is so skinny that it's giving the models fits.  If everything threads the needle perfectly like the ECMWF and ICON did tonight it will get pretty cold.

This is obviously what we are shooting for.  I have to say the end of the ECMWF looks quite decent too.

Almost no doubt that system at the end of the ECMWF run would be a snow maker for the Puget Sound region.  PERFECT tracking low with cold air in place.

The easterly breeze totally saved my bacon today.  It managed to hold the torch just to the south and west of here.  Only made 51.  Currently down to 49.

I'm thinking if tomorrow's ECMWF is like tonight's run there will be some people taking notice.  That system at the end would be a Seattle special.  Only one run of one model of course.

The EPS control tracks the system south of what the operational was showing for the day 10 system, but precip type is snow.

As for all of the talk of the PNW mountains and scenery, while it is truly incredible, the mountains of the Alaska inside passage is on another level.  If I thought I could handle the dark winters, I would move to Juneau, Ketchikan,or Sitka in a heartbeat

I’ll be going on an Alaskan Cruise at the end of June and will be going through Ketchikan and Juneau!

Nice anecdotal statement, they don't do that here, our PUD maximizes cost, our next bill is gonna be $400+, and it shouldn't be.

Same here. Somehow only pulled off a 51/43 yesterday. East winds really kept things in check in the immediate Portland area. Amazingly PDX only hit 48.

With that massive, disgusting blob of warmth just miles to the south though, I know our luck won’t last forever.

You have a big electric bill Andrew. Mine was $150 and I have a 3K sf house although I have equal pay, the increase will probably show up at the end of the utility cycle hopefully it won't be too much more.  I hate to see the snow pack melt, although it is cloud today so maybe it won't melt as much as when it is raining.

I would be ticked if I had to pay for a permit on a fallen tree. I love our trees and I hate to see them come down. The tree that took out my power was about 60-70 years old, really sad, but it was healthy, no rot. I guess it just fell because the wind hit it the wrong way. So many trees have been lost. Not as many here. Trees near the gorge are really resilient and rarely fall but areas away from the gorge that only get occasional wind such as Lake Oswego, SW Portland or Milwaukie have a lot more tree damage.

Overcast morning here. Taking a quiet day today after yesterday's Cougar basketball game vs Colorado. With my son being sick the only plan is to catch the football games today.
