I can already see the flurry of self proclaimed professional storm chasers readying their drones and twitter quips on why it was ok for them to do 90 in a 35.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I remember looking up summer 2015 for this area and was surprised at the lack of big heat. Whereas the PNW was in hell that year.

Huntington WV ran cool departures Jul/Aug 2015. How much of the US torched that year?

Funny, 2015 was among the top-10 hottest summers on record here. Trough axis was slightly too far west so we were stuck with SW flow while the Ohio Valley scored cool departures.

It was a warm summer nationally too, thanks to the obscene warm departures in the west. The larger scale pattern should be different this summer but not necessarily an improvement. Seems likely that a fat, ugly, sprawling ridge will set up in the center of the CONUS in July and stay put through September.

Nice day... up to 50 in North Bend now.

Baseline pic before warm spell... will try to post an update in one week to see the changes.   Maybe a green tinge to the trees by then?

NB 3-13-24.jpg

We are going to have a decent dusting by early next week…Of Pollen!

My wife's eyes started itching in the last few days even before the warm spell starts.   I can always tell when the trees are getting ready to leaf out by her allergies.   The allergies go away once everything is leafed out.

Looks like the 18Z GFS is back to keeping the blocking ridge in place later next week...12Z run had it lifting to the north at this time.

Crazy pattern... but shows troughing across most of the country like the EPS is showing.

If the coast to coast troughing pattern verifies, it HAS to end before the April 8th eclipse. Otherwise I will be very VERY unhappy.

Just nice to have a ridge event that’s in the realm of something normal for our climate, rather than smashing record highs like we usually do.

Enjoy your snowstorm @Front Ranger

Seems like good odds you get at least a foot?

Yessir! There will be a strong east/west gradient as that map shows, so I could see anywhere from 10-20" depending on how far east the heaviest precip extends.

I'll be sure to post pics.

It's been a pretty bad year in terms of snow there, right?

This summer is going to suck donkey balls. Fully expect it’ll be the hottest summer ever for the lower-48, and by a wide margin. Worst possible alignment of seasonal forcings.

Good chance there won’t be any cool departures to speak of, except maybe June.

Eh, those models are wrong pretty often.

Looking at past strong Nino to Nina transition summers (I know there are other factors) here at least, there is no signal for a hot summer. Second year Ninas are reliably hot.

With a La Niña transition looking more likely, I think that Phil is starting to feel that SE ridge nipping at his toes and wants to spread the misery ;)

Looks like Mark backed off to 73 for Saturday and Sunday now. Good trendz.

73 sounds more reasonable, straight from high 40s to 80+ is jarring.

Planning to go to the Austin/San Antonio area  here. First time in Texas. Right now eying the Fredericksburg area because it has some cool history and is also far enough west to be the band of 4+ minutes of totality.

Have a pipe dream of seeing it from Enchanted Rock:

But we’ll see how that works out. I’m guessing it will be incredibly crowded there.

Probably somewhere west of Austin, I want to go to enchanted Rock but it'll probably be too busy there so I'll just find somewhere else. Have hotel reservations in Fredericksburg, but I'm willing to drive a few hundred miles in any direction if it's not going to be sunny at my planned location.

Oh now you confirmed why I don't want to go. If both of us want to go there, that probably means 1000s upon 1000s of other people also want to be there.

It will be really interesting to start tracking the weather soon.    A deep trough with solid clouds and precip over Texas while it's sunny in Cleveland and Buffalo would probably send travel plans into chaos.

Texas can be surprisingly cloudy in the spring.

Something like tomorrow night would be worst case scenario for the entire path of totality in the US.

Unfortunately true, but it's still the clearest state in the path of totality. I think it avgs around 50% cloud cover during the time of the eclipse, which is unfortunately a pretty high number.
