April 2017 Observations and Model Discussion for the Pacific Northwest

Recommended Posts

Another mild sunny day here, we couldn't even catch so much as a passing shower. Now up to 11 days without significant rainfall. Hopefully we can score a rainier pattern in May/June to avoid a 3rd crippling summer drought.

At least victoria has that new reservoir that is overflowing after 66" of rain this season. Get the sprinklers ready.

Felt like winter this morning. Mid 40's, moderate rain, and east winds around 15 mph.

Indeed. I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Pretty persistent cold deformation band over the Portland area most of the day. Decent mountain snows above 3,500'.

00Z ECMWF was aggressive in bringing in rain on Saturday... 12Z run is back to being dry for everyone that day.

Here is 5 p.m. on Saturday on the 12Z ECMWF coming out now...

Can you post a snow and a rain map for next 72 hours with a slightly larger frame? Thanks

Clippers or Jazz are next to be swept.

NBA is a joke right now unfortunately. No parity at all.

It's pretty much always been that way. Lakers and Celtics in the 80s, Bulls in the 90s, Lakers and Spurs in the 00s... this incarnation of the Warriors is a bit more extreme though.

Not to forget that every team has to deal with Lebron.

Celtics won 8 consecutive championships at one point with Bill Russell.

Yeah I guess it's not a right now thing.

At least Basketball teams exist to distract us from this torturous weather. Take solace in that, my son.

I know, I was never very talented at basketball though, in fact the opposite of talented. So sometimes watching reminds me of my own inadequacy.

Still totally dry here... first band fell apart on arrival.

I know for one brief fleeting moment how wonderful it is in Victoria every day. :)

Up to 12 days without significant rainfall here, already seeing signs of drying grass in sunny spots. I've had several random people comment on the "nice" weather, they don't seem to understand that unless we get a rainy May we're looking at a terrible drought this summer.

Had a nice showery day. High of 48 degrees which could be a touch warmer but today worked I guess.

Hey that's not bad. Normally I'm not even into that genre and I thought these were good.

Well... I assure you that our region is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overdue for a drier pattern.   So its coming.   ;)

And how many Springs are out there that do not give us brief warm spells before July? At least in western Oregon memory I cannot say offhand I've had one like that. ;)

I like it. You should see if you can get them to play it on 94.7. Seems like something they might feature on their EDM PDX show or something. They're pretty good about supporting local stuff.

But if you just drive 5 miles away... the world is sopping wet and thoroughly saturated.

I have not heard a single person in real life say anything good about the weather this spring.   But then its literally been raining almost every single day since the end of January.
