PNW December 2022 - Part II

HRRR has precip picking up in the central Sound again late this evening into early tomorrow morning. Not sure what it sees, but given the nebulous nature of this Arctic frontal boundary's precip shield, I would not discount such a development.

You're focusing too much on this "arctic" front.  The main reason why another zone will set up later is because of the westerly flow wrapping around the Olympics.  The front is aiding the zone in making it more dynamic but it (the front), is not the culprit behind it, not this time.

Being right on the edge of scoring (like a few miles away) is so much worse than completely missing out. I’m gonna be able to see the snowy hills in Snohomish across the valley when we have daylight tomorrow 😂

There will probably be a fairly sharp E-W snowfall gradient tonight. All this snowfall is occurring due to very low level moisture... Low level terrain is playing a pretty substantial role in precip intensity.

The ECMWF is being such a butt munch about Tuesday still.  Some snow in the morning, then rain, then snow again for this area.  On the plus side it treats this area well in the backwash following the low.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Total Snowfall = 1.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 1

Snow coming down now here in Covington.

Yup.  Finally getting some and the radar looks good.  ECMWF shifted a tad south for tonight so we may pick up a couple of inches.

Well, everyone on here thinks the "arctic" front (putting it in quotations because it isn't really), is the reason they may or may not see moisture ie; snow tonight.  Watch your wind flow and pay attention to what is going on in the strait, let your knowledge of this phenomenon guide you.

Going to be close. Even with that track it will be colder than shown.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

I just got back from Issaquah and there was some pretty good snow between here and there.  I-90 already snow on it around Preston and the 18 junction.

That cold air going out over the ocean acts like a lake effect and then gets wringed out in the convergences. I don’t know if models take that into affect but in the past they tend to underestimate it.

I agree.  The center is a tad south of here in the afternoon.  It does show a nice amount of backwash snow even if the main event doesn't work out.

Its already dropped down to -6F here at my house this evening. This before the real Arctic air moves in here on Wednesday which is crazy when you think about it!

Windchill Warning and Winter Storm Watch have been issued for windchill values as low as -60F/C and 4-8" of snowfall on Wednesday. Going to be a heck of a brutal 48 hour stretch!🥶

And its just not a c-zone parked along I-90 and that opens it up for everyone... precip is widespread.

Fascinating. Your climate is pretty much on another planet. I'm glad you still post here, helps to put some perspective and context around our "events" here 😅.

What's the coldest temp you've seen there to date?
