All the patio doors wide open to the lanai with constant thunder and lightning and its still crazy warm out there. Rain is very rare in this area which averages less than 10 inches per year. Tropical downpours most of the night per the ECMWF and then sunny and 85 again tomorrow and every day this week. Perturbed Member
We didn't have anything in the Central or south valley either. Looks like we have several chances this week though. Yeah it is pretty frustrating because this type of thing is just luck a lot of the time. Both for the Christmas eve event and this, the heaviest precip just ended up further east. West and south metro have fared pretty poorly this season. HIO has probably had a total of .5 inches of snow this entire season while Gresham has to be well over 5 inches by now. Perturbed Member
Some interesting changes from the 12z and 00z ECMWF models. Previously the main low would continue south with kind of a enhancement occurring between SW WA and NW OR, this kept the gradients either weak or offshore. Now the 00z ECMWF just brings the low onshore at the OR/WA border which turns most of the lowest elevations in the PDX metro to rain. This is obviously better for areas north but bad for down here. Perturbed Member
Once again the main precip band comes through during peak heating. Ugh. Cold dry air in place and no southerly or westerly gradient, that should work regardless of timing I think. FYI the UKMET shows this band too.
