July 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

This summer is start look a bit like it may resemble 2014, sustained warmth, though not extreme warmth.

Hopefully the winter turns out a little better than the total dud that followed then.

What does Trump have to do with your inarticulate post?  Don't you think the Politics forum is the place to express your admiration of dear leader?

Best sunset in all of 2016 happened...on you-know-who's election.

It's even the correct color! And you ask?

It was a spectacular sunset all the way down in Fresno last night as well.

Yeah... there was narrow band of clouds on the east side of the trough offshore that stretched half-way down the West Coast.  It was perfectly placed in the evening from Bellingham to central CA to make for a great sunset.

Gorgeous morning... sunny and warm.

My sons and their friends hiked to the top of Rattlesnake Ledge to watch the sunrise.   I heard them leaving at 4:30 a.m. and they were back already by 7.    They were looking at the WRF and ECMWF last night with me before deciding.   It worked out well... the band of clouds from last night was exiting off to the east so it made for a nice sunrise as well.

Really strange set up this weekend... sprawling ridge across the most of the country which you would assume is warm:

The western lobe of high pressure is warm... but the eastern ridge is not warm at the surface.

I drove to PDX yesterday and stayed at Barton park near Estacada, I have to say there is a stark difference in the state of the vegetation here in Oregon than in Washington. Everything seems crispy dry here. Walked down to the Clackamas river from my campsite and everything seemed pretty tinder dry. I saw 7 very large buzzards up in a big tree. I don't recall ever seeing buzzards that big in the PNW...

The Clackamas drainage has tons of Turkey Vultures. I have always noticed that whenever I am there...

I've been seeing more Turkey Vultures this year as well. More of them moving into the PNW?

WRF is bullish on a convective explosion later this afternoon and evening... could get .50 here.

Most of this falls between 2-8 p.m. today:

Stop worrying so much about the vegetation. Sounds like you are buying the story the global warming pimps are selling you hook line and sinker.

Endless heatwave now showing up the last five days of the Euro. Been about ten months since we’ve seen one of those!!

I told you that you’d hate July. ;)

Gonna be a rough 3 weeks for you and the rest of team “common sense”.

No, but I am buying the idea that a sudden influx of people means more chances for stupid people to cause accidental fires while camping/hiking etc...

You got cold anomaly feet there for a while.

76 with a dewpoint of 60 here with a mix of blue sky, high clouds, and some lower convective looking clouds.

Dewpoints are mostly around 60 on the east side of Seattle.   That is ideal for summer.

That is surreal

I had never seen anything like it. We pulled over on the country road between Brownsville and Lebanon to take some pics.

Slightly drier here with a dew point of 57. Sitting at 74 at home currently. These high and mid level clouds might be mucking things up for convection this far west.
