PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

Recommended Posts

The 10 day forecast on the 00z GFS is about the most exciting I've seen in the past month. Looks like pretty solid snowfall up in the mountains and average or slightly above rainfall in lowlands. Nothing exceptional, but after the January snoozefest I'd take it! I'm still only at just over 2" of precip for 2023.

Jesus that setup would be absurd up here. I can barely blow the snow over my existing berms so adding another 10' would be crazy. My buddy managed to get his snow blower on his roof today. I might have to do the same. Noticed some new cracks in the sheet rock in the garage ceiling yesterday

500mb colder than normal in the west, surface not so much

It has been below normal.  Why look at maps when we have hard numbers to look at for that?  It blows my mind people east of the mountains are complaining about what has been a very cold winter over there.

We may get a decent event later this month…but even if we do the late December cold looks like it’ll definitely end up the top event this winter. Despite lacking snow south of Everett…it was a pretty bigtime blast. Wouldn’t be surprised if we had to wait several years to see something like that again. To manage back to back years with cold waves producing highs in the mid 20s is impressive.

This is why I'm more interested in a climate that is big on cold, but has just moderate snowfall.
