And now another unprecedented observation in my 17 years of records: it is currently 10°F warmer here than at DCA, on a clear night with SW winds.  
 

They’re at sea level but urban environment should keep the boundary layer mixed. Nothing makes sense anymore.

PDX needs to relax those winds if they want to get much colder than 25 tonight.

PDX put up a -17 departure on the day. SLE is at 36/24 on the day so far, good for a -15 departure.

I would hate to waste an unprecedented opportunity of single digits with the widespread deep snow cover 7-12" everywhere. We have the clear skies. Imagine if we went calm. Friday night is the night.

Single digits seems aspirational, but I could see mid teens. 
 

Good news is even if PDX doesn’t get to 24 by midnight, tomorrows record is an attainable 25.

Rather impressively this is the 4th cold wave this season where SEA has had double digit minus temperature departures from normal.  It's actually been a pretty impressive Nov - Feb.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow afternoon to make a call on the Saturday night event.  Still time for the ECMWF to get better again.  The GFS has steadily improved the last 4 runs.

Officially a subfreezing day. The nearest station for WU has us at 15F.

I had a high of 32 which is considered a freezing day.

If the closed low develops, then expect accumulating snow showers
will continue through early Tuesday afternoon and possibly even
bring some thundersnow showers. Then the upper low will slowly
meander southward from the area keeping showers and possibly more
light accumulations to the lowest elevations into early Wednesday
night. The open wave model solutions do move precipitation out of
the area quicker and and result in a drier Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday night. In all cases, late overnight hours through the mid-
morning hours will bring the greatest time of concern for the
accumulating snow. Most ensemble temperature data supports the
afternoon and evening hours returning to the 40s.
