October 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Wow, Michael's eye went directly over the Alabama-Georgia-Florida border as a Major Hurricane. This is probably the first time in history a major hurricanes eye has been in 3 states at the same time.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Amazing the crap i see come in my shop. This dude drove so long with bad brakes that the caliper acually milled the rotor into 2 pieces like a lathe.

Wow, that's insane! How can you drive that long on bad brakes, come on!

I've seen it all. Had a guy drive a mini van in one day that needed a transmission that had lost all forward gears it was out of his budget to repair so he got in the van and drove off down the road in reverse. LOL

Guess I should have left the boat in the water a little longer.

I'm embarrassed that I know like nothing about automobiles.

I bet you could tell the difference between a Pinto and a Prius.

Yes but that's about the extent of it. Haven't been able to drive for years so my interest has waned even further.

I did get to drive a black Camaro in Hawai'i back in 2013. Most fun driving I ever had. Epilepsy took that away but hopefully it'll go away. 1 year seizure free and I can get behind the wheel again.

About 61 here today. Didn't clear up until 11:30/12 noon about.

64 today at SEA and in North Bend.     Warmer than I thought... sunny for most of the afternoon here with clouds over the mountains to the east.

I have owned a Pinto, though. Wagon to be specific

My parents owned a green Pinto wagon.   No A/C and only AM radio.    We drove from Minnesota to Florida in that thing in August 1978.    It was a little warm!

My aunt had one. I remember riding in it once or twice and then not being allowed to after she got arrested for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (as I found out much later in life).

Mine was lime green with faux wood panels. Bought it for $300 in 1990, put new tires on it and drove it until it died.

Good thing about it, was I could throw an air mattress and sleeping bag in the back and I had a nice little "RV" for fishing trips all over the West.

Just turn the rotors, they'll be fine!!

I've never had luck with turning rotors.  Did it as a poor starving college student and they warped within a month or 2 (this is on the first turning).  Granted, my driving style had a lot to do with it (aircraft carrier landing style stops....aircraft carrier launch style take offs too for that matter...went through a lot of clutches).

I've mellowed with my old age, but I'm still not one to just coast to a stop, so I still go through brakes pretty fast.  The difference now is that I can afford to buy new rotors when I change the brakes (doing them myself keep the price from getting too out of control).

Still some convective clouds out there as we approach sunset... there has been some rain on the radar to the north and east as well for the last couple hours.    Looks like its fading now with the loss of daytime heating.

All he said was it started making a sound haha.

I do my own brakes and have been for 10 years. So easy to do. I'm pretty good at telling when the brake pads are about gone.

Same, I have been replacing my own brakes for about five years now. It saves so much money! Just need to find the time to start doing my own oil changes.

Latest 80°F on record in Portland is 10/21. Even if this high pressure system strengthens further, it probably won’t be the latest 80°F on record, but it will sure be close.

High today was 66ºF and low was 43ºF. Mostly sunny conditions.

Any talk of even a remote chance of temps approaching 80 next week is INSANITY.

I've spent a lot more money on oil changes than brakes over the years. Brakes I usually have to replace every 3 years or so (mostly highway driving), while in that same period I'll get a dozen or so oil changes.

Ditto. At least oil changes are pretty cheap.

I did start doing my own air filter installations now.

Clear skies right now. Guessing it will be pretty foggy come morning.

Unless your car requires full synthetic oil, which a lot of newer model, hybrid, and high performance vehicles do. Then you're looking at $60-$90 a pop, at least around here.

I also change my own air filters. And windshield wiper blades!

Mine can go either way on oil actually. Yeah do the wiper blades too myself. Around here it seems like once a year is average.

Yeah, at least oil changes aren’t too bad. I probably go through brakes quicker than average since I do a lot of mountain and backroads driving, so it beats spending several hundred every few years to have someone else do it.

Down to the mid-50s here already. Could be around 40 by morning.
